The theme of the ninth Object Head Zine is “HISTORICAL FICTION”.

Whether you’re swashbuckling against pirates on the high seas, flirting with a shy noble across the royal court, or partying up at the busiest speakeasy - history awaits you in the new Object Head Zine! This topic is a little open ended: so long as your object head is historically accurate to the time period, it can be whatever you like!

This book will feature 25 people I’ve selected, plus 35 open slots available to the public for a total of 60 participants! This year’s zine is a PAID OPPORTUNITY of $100 USD per page (an increase from previous years!). Participants will be paid as soon as they complete their piece  (give or take a week for PayPal to transfer funds). There will be a pre-order sale to cover the costs of printing and shipping.

The 25 pre-selected participants are:

Potentialforart|Snark|Coey Kuhn|Rainbowboopz|Anna Chen Campbell|Corviday|Kimberly Wang|Louise Kay Uy|Cosmicloak|jeong|theHoleyness|Nighto|Blacklimes|Autumn Haynes|Jenny Park|Shibara|Juliette GMM López|Lemonjuiceday|Nelnal|Corruptimles|Cacoethic+Lenalis|Cryptovolans|Caitlin Ono|Inktrashing

The guidelines are as follows:

  • Illustration-quality works in either digital or traditional mediums. Both colour and b/w acceptable; background required. *BG can be as simple as a pattern or colour block!
  • 6”x9”, 300 DPI illustrations with a 1/8th inch bleed (FINAL DIMENSIONS SHOULD BE 6.25” x 9.25”) Works must be in CMYK, and in a vertical format only.
  • At least one (1) work in progress picture should be sent in with your final illustration.
  • For consistency’s sake, keep faces to a minimum (You can have eye(s) or you can have mouth(s) but don’t have both in a humanoid arrangement.)
  • Original characters only (yours or your friends’).
  • You can include humans or other creatures, as long as there’s a 1:1   object head to non-object head/human ratio.
  • This book is for all ages. PG-13 content at the most! Cartoon violence and blood are acceptable, but realistic gore is NOT. Use your common sense. If you’re unsure, run the idea by me.
  • Depictions of war, fighting, and/or violence are acceptable but please be aware of the usage of symbols in your work. Do not have any usage of hate symbols, associated flags, slogans, greetings, or uniforms. Use your common sense. Any depictions of this will be given a one time warning to remove the offending part of piece. Any refusal or argument against this will remove you from the zine completely.
  • Do not have the Red Cross, the Red Crystal or the Red Crescent symbol in your piece. Usage of this symbol is legislated by the Geneva Conventions Act, the Trade Marks Act and the Canadian Red Cross Society Act. Any usage of this symbol will be asked to be edited to remove it.
  • Please put in the proper research when illustrating your historical period, especially if you’re drawing from a culture that isn’t your own. Mistakes are inevitable, even when working within our own cultures and while 100% accuracy isn’t necessary or required, we want to be respectful to the cultures we’re depicting.
  • Completed illustrations must be sent as a flattened psd or tiff file

There  are only 10 slots for comics available due to page count space so if  you apply for a comic space, and you are selected, you may not be picked  for comics but instead illustration!

Alarm clock object head doll! I needed a physical alarm clock to help me get up at dawn to let my chooks out every day, and somehow it turned into an object head BJD project ^^

I attached a neck doughnut, wire crosspiece and wire loop with Milliput to the ABS clock ‘head’ at a natural angle, then attached that to the UFDoll ¼ body’s stringing with a very short loop of elastic.

I actually really like her lol. I don’t have much in the way of white non-staining clothing but managed to put some pieces together into a cute ensemble. She’s rechargeable, reacts to sound and touch, and works as a dimmable nightlight as well as clock and thermometer ^^ I’d like to make her some clear kaomoji decals somehow…

i grew up a screw-up

Story time!

A few months ago, a skype video chat request popped up on my screen out of the blue. I nearly accepted it (one of my friends was notorious for doing this unsolicited at the time) before realizing that it was no one that I knew. I was pretty new to using skype, so I wasn’t aware that strangers could ping me in this way.

I tried to ignore it, wait for it to time out, but the tone kept sounding for an annoyingly long time and the call persisted. Eventually, I clicked decline, only for another video chat request to immediately spring up. I declined it again, and another insistently popped up in almost the same beat. This went on for six or seven iterations before I finally got fed up.

Like I said, I was new to skype and was not only unsure about how to block this person in between the frightening barrage of chat requests, but I was also morbidly curious as to what they wanted from me. I didn’t actually have much on my profile, just my name (which I quickly deleted after this ordeal) my age (ditto), and a shitty cartoon representation of me as my icon. So I sent this person a message over the chatroom system like ‘who the fuck are you.’

Unsurprisingly, it ended up being a dude. He apologized profusely for bothering me, said he only was looking for friends. I did not accept his contact request, despite his wheedling for me to do so. He said he was 25. (His skype profile said he was 38.) Our conversation started out cordial enough; we talked about respective employments, our favorite cities. Then he professed his love to me. (Of course.) Then he started badgering me for pictures of myself, nude or otherwise. I’d refuse to, and he would apologize, we’d change topics, but he’d consistently steer the conversation back to him asking for pictures of me. I quickly got pissed off.

Eventually, tired of refusing his demands for selfies, I started sending him pictures back. Pictures of my favorite sniper rifles. (I’ve been fascinated by war aesthetic since I was little, sorry.) When his simpering request for just one picture of me came through for the umpteenth time, I dropped an image of a PGM Ultima Ratio I got off google into the fileshare box. He accepted the file eagerly and immediately. Then silence.

'What is this?’ he asked. I told him what it was, why it was my favorite, chattered enthusiastically about range and ammo and specifications. He laughed it off as a joke, asked me what I really looked like. I sent him a picture of a SAKO TRG-42. This continued sporadically over the course of several hours. I must have sent him over fifty pictures of guns I liked, blank files that he accepted with increasingly manic desperation in the hopes of finally seeing a picture of me. His messages became discernibly nervous. I cluttered his inbox with pictures of ordnance.

He finally blocked me after I sent him an image of a Barrett M82 laid out in the desert, in response to one of his feeble demands for me to finally show my face. It’s one of the most hilarious things that has happened to me to this day.
