#obscure kamen rider
Fun fact:
This is Kamen Rider Kiva-La, or Kivarra as I’ve also seen it romanized. She first appeared in Kamen Rider Decade’s finale movie, if memory serves correctly. But did you know she originally looked a bit different?
This is a promotional image for the aforementioned movie, where it says (supposedly; i can’t read much japanese so my source on this is rider wiki. in other words take this with a grain or ten of salt) it’s the “true form of kiva-la”, which, if you’ve seen the movie, isn’t quite true. More importantly, though, you’ll probably notice a few details that don’t quite match the final suit, most notably the white belt instead of the red.
Here’s a digital recreation I also took from Rider Wiki. You can see not only was the belt changed, the lines on the legs and torso weren’t coloured black, the gem in the middle is missing, and the head crest is completely purple, as opposed to purple and gold.
Bit of an interesting topic here… Has anyone heard of Card Warrior Kamen Riderbefore?
From what I’ve been able to find, it was a Bandai toyline and manga from 2009 that introduced these neat little exclusive forms for a bunch of Riders. A lot of them, most notably the early waves, seem to be a Rider combined with a thematically appropriate robot creature. For example, Ichigo with a grasshopper, or Knight with a bat.
The figures themselves seem to be little chibi-esque dudes, and each comes with a card of the animal/insect robot they combine with.
I wasn’t able to find pics of every figure released, since the line is so obscure, but here are some I did find of the boxes. There was also a Hibiki and a couple others but I didn’t realize tumblr had an image limit.
Here, have a still from a food commercial starring V3 and Mazinger Z, who are… both the same size for some reason.
And as a bonus, here’s a photo of the full Mazinger Z costume.
