With time comes growth, maturity and more to offer in life (even with our Orchids ) °°° Oberonia rufilabris another beauty from the Philippines, today and 2 years ago °°° #orchiddynasty #growsomething #orchids #orchid #flowers #knowwhatyougrow #succulents #plants #modern #moderndesign #modernplants #phalaenopsis #design #epiphyte #orchiddynasty #tropical #cactus #orchidculture #plantsofinstagram #plantdesign #interiordesign #interiorscape #fern #orchidees #angrek #angrekk #orchidea #ladyslipper #paphiopedilum #cattleya #orchidsofinstagram (at Orchid Dynasty) https://www.instagram.com/p/B1eGPMHB5aF/?igshid=1m55rc54dqfdd
( Australia ) grown in a 10" diameter bulb pan °°° Did you know many orchids are succulents? We use this term loosely to describe many plants but most people don’t realize it’s not a specific group of plants from any particular area, but a descriptive term used for plants that have evolved swollen or fleshy parts to survive periods of drought or seasonally dry months (a perfect example are the Dendrobiums of Australia). Think about your orchids the psuedobulbs of your Oncidiums and Cymbidiums, the swollen canes of the Dendrobiums, the terete leaves of the Brassavolas and even the fleshy leaves of some Phalaenopsis are all for water preservation, a classic defining feature of a succulent °°° #orchiddynasty #growsomething #orchids #orchid #flowers #knowwhatyougrow #succulents #plants #modern #moderndesign #modernplants #phalaenopsis #design #epiphyte #orchiddynasty #tropical #cactus #orchidculture #plantsofinstagram #plantdesign #interiordesign #interiorscape #fern #orchidees #angrek #angrekk #orchidea #ladyslipper #paphiopedilum #cattleya #orchidsofinstagram (at Orchid Dynasty) https://www.instagram.com/p/BySfxpahI6B/?igshid=1278288slzwt1
Dendrobium Frosty Dawn (Dawn Maree x Lime Frost) °°° A complex hybrid within the hirsute (or Formosan) section of Dendrobium. This hybrid can produce variable flowers, but most are a shade of creamy-green with contrasting red/orange lip. Flowers tend to open lighter in color with the lip intensifying with age. Like many hybrids with Dendrobium christyanum heritage, flowers can be sweetly fragrant in the morning °°° #orchiddynasty #growsomething #orchids #orchid #flowers #knowwhatyougrow #succulents #plants #modern #moderndesign #modernplants #phalaenopsis #design #epiphyte #orchiddynasty #tropical #dendrobium #orchidculture #plantsofinstagram #plantdesign #interiordesign #interiorscape #fern #orchidees #angrek #angrekk #orchidea #ladyslipper #paphiopedilum #cattleya #orchidsofinstagram (at Sài Gòn) https://www.instagram.com/p/BviX7rEnryv/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1r374pa00uq1v
aes•thet•ic °°° 1. concerned with beauty or the appreciation of beauty. 2. a set of principles underlying and guiding the work of a particular artist or artistic movement °°° Like it or not, we are all drawn to aesthetic beauty. Turn your nose up at the frivolity of a society driven by it and you’ll still fall for its trap. We have to face it, it’s a biological construct of being human Those of us who are all “into” the natural world, or have an appreciation for design in any realm- art, architecture, fashion, music, etc are suckers for it. Even plants understand this. This is exactly how they survive really. They understand that a combination of shape, color, texture, pattern and fragrance will get their flowers pollinated by pollinators attracted to their “aesthetic beauty” therefore pollinating their blooms and ensuring the next generation. But you ask “I’m a human growing an orchid out of its natural setting does this really apply to me?” °°° Let’s take this Orchid- Neofinetia falcata ‘Oganamaru’. I mounted this on a piece of rough teak about 5 years ago and it’s grown quite well. I have also grown tillandsia usenoides (Spanish moss) around its mount in root system to help with humidity. Why do I like this so much? Is it the slab of wood I chose to grow it on? It would have grown just as well in a plastic basket right? But to me it wouldn’t look the same I like this because as an epiphyte it looks more natural growing on a piece of wood and in turn seems more “aesthetically pleasing” °°° #orchiddynasty #growsomething #orchids #orchid #flowers #knowwhatyougrow #succulents #plants #modern #moderndesign #modernplants #phalaenopsis #design #epiphyte #orchiddynasty #tropical #cactus #orchidculture #plantsofinstagram #plantdesign #interiordesign #interiorscape #fern #orchidees #angrek #angrekk #orchidea #ladyslipper #paphiopedilum #cattleya #orchidsofinstagram
So much ♥️ for Renantharas °°° Renanthara vietnamensis occurs in the hills of Northern Vietnam near the Chinese border °°° This is a first bloom plant at about 10" tall . This species stays relatively compact for Renantharas (in contrast we have a Ren. coccinea that is 7’ tall that hasn’t yet bloomed for the first time ) °°° #orchiddynasty #growsomething #orchids #orchid #vanda #renanthara #succulents #plants #modern #moderndesign #modernplants #phalaenopsis #design #epiphyte #orchiddynasty #tropical #cactus #orchidculture #plantsofinstagram #plantdesign #interiordesign #interiorscape #fern #orchidees #angrek #angrekk #orchidea #ladyslipper #paphiopedilum #cattleya #orchidsofinstagram (at Orchid Dynasty) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bu8w6EjH2_k/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=pwmlt5dbto74
Dendobium apphyllum is native to Southeast Asia and another example of a monsoonal climate orchid that requires a dry winter rest to insure springtime flowering °°° It belongs to a small group of related species that have some similar attributes in flower shape and morphology but look very distinct vegetatively. Some refer to it as synonymous with Den. peirardii and Den. cucullatum but I have grown all species in the group and I prefer to keep my tags separate since they’re very easily distinguished even out of bloom!⠀ °°°⠀ This specimen is growing in a 5” plastic pot and is approximately 6’ long. It has grown a few “keikis” (baby plantlets) from it’s previous year’s canes (these are seen lower on the canes). These are an identicle clone of the mother plant and can be removed and repotted on their own once they reach adequate size. I prefer to keep them on for 1 to 2 years of growth and then take them off when the orchid is repotted. Did you notice the leaves of the Plebodium aureum (Blue Star Fern) that has started growing in its pot? These can be a nuisance crowding out the Orchid and using up valuable water and fertilizer and should definitely be removed when given the chance °°°⠀ #orchiddynasty #growsomething #orchids #orchid #flowers #succulents #plants #modern #moderndesign #modernplants #phalaenopsis #design #epiphyte #orchiddynasty #tropical #cactus #orchidculture #plantsofinstagram #plantdesign #interiordesign #dendrobium #fern #orchidees #angrek #angrekk #orchidea #ladyslipper #paphiopedilum #cattleya #orchidsofinstagram (at Orchid Dynasty) https://www.instagram.com/p/BuoPRgYHCUx/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=8sw5zon3lip6
