Can’t stop thinking about this - the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ - also known as Main Cathedral of the Russian Armed Forces, completed on 9 May 2020, on the annual Victory Day. It’s is as magnificent as it is fucked up. I normally don’t care about Cathedrals but this - this is a real masterpiece of modernity, with its magnificent Byzantium architecture and Nordic metal façades and Arabic glazed rooms. But it also has tinted glass panels with Soviet generals and mosaics dedicated to occupation of Crimea. They even had Stalin and Putin in there but later removed them. It’s a Temple of War that glorifies Russia’s military past and encourages its military future. I guess it’s in places like these they bless the bombs that kill our children.
