✨Welcoming myself back this spring. Fear and exhaustion has played a key role in my life these past couple of years… I’ve held back so many dreams and ideas and creative projects in order to protect myself from getting hurt and from the “failure”. I’ve center hurt too much and let it control my confidence. We gonna recenter the healing and the play and the dreaming. So we gonna do this. We gonna go after our dreams and we gonna do it sustainably and we gonna do it with love and we gonna have joy!! Fuck the fear and fuck the hurt, and when we fail we gonna fail gloriously and when we rise we gonna rise gloriously… say it with me: I’ve always been enough, I’ve always been artist enough, I am brilliant, I am loved and what ever path I’ve carved for myself is mine. We not gonna shy away, we gonna show up with our heads held high. We gonna celebrate!! And we gonna keep cheering each other!!! Ya! ✨Weekend vibes. ✨While in conversation with friends, and other artists and cultural workers something that keeps coming up is how we are prioritizing showing up for ourselves in the most tender and gentle and kind ways. I think there is something beautiful seeing and witnessing many folks tending to their inner child, and the ways we are doing things for pure pleasure and joy. I’m here for the roller skating, pod casts, yummy food making, the naps, the baths, and the switching up eyeliners. I’m here for the white boots, and the plant growing, the dog caring, and the bindge watching of Yellowjackets. I’m here for us sleeping and crying and washing our hair and getting our nails done. I’m here for the boundary setting and the long phone calls and FaceTime catch ups with laughter- all the gentle things. I’m here for us celebrating the minor and big and silly things. The anthology I’ve been co-editing will soon have a cover reveal and I’ve been so anxious. Today I told my therapist how secretly I am nervous that the book won’t be perfect. I’ve never co-edited or worked with such big publisher. Through out this journey it has been scary and sometimes lonely and hard. She reminded me that I am doing the best I can. And she reminded me to center the joyful moments of this book process. And there has been so much joy working with the writers and poets and visual artist. Ive gotten to know and get familiar with our contributors, and what an honor it has been to intimately learn about their journey. Who would have though this migrant poet from Harlem would be editing something this big and bring in so many badass #Queer #Trans #nonbinary creatives. So I’m going to be gentle with myself and celebrate this book and celebrate myself, celebrate our community and push away the anxiety!! #Ad shout outs to @kidsofimmigrants who are creating these necessary clothing spaces for us by us. And @nouswithoutyou an incredible LA organization supporting #migrant communities specially during this pandemic. They been feeding families, providing rent relief and employment opportunities. So grateful to lend my poetry for this badass collaboration between KIDS of IMMIGRANTS x BUCHANAN’S SCOTCH WHISKY . They created the “What Glory We Are” capsule, a line from my poem GLORY✨✨100% of proceeds of sales will be donated to @Nouswithoutyou to support the ongoing critical organization’s work in feeding LA immigrant communities.

They launched the line yesterday, and they still have items left!! Go purchase them on @kidsofimmigrants . Remember all proceeds go to @nouswithoutyou !!

On this last day of 2021 I want to celebrate and shout out my bowl cut that held it down for me! The real MVP!! I haven’t had my hair this length or in this one color for a very long time. It has taught me patience and has taught me to not give a fuck about what ppl think. It also inspired me to play specially with neon color eyeliners. I look like my 5 year old self. On the left side is a photograph of me holding the teddy I was given by my family when I first got to NYC. I think that explains why I now collect small stuffed animals (and big ones like the baby Yoda I got from Costco a couple of months ago that takes up most of the bed space). So 2021 recap- it’s was all about nourishing and tending and healing that inner child. Being the #nonbinary adult that tiny me dreamed of. And this year this adult rested, ate, cried, grew, had a fun birthday cake, wore all the sparkles, had depression, and kept rearranging their apt every other week because that’s how I channeled my anxiety. This adult can’t wait for the new year and more play and more rest and more naps and more delicious foods …. And I can’t wait to be able to tie this hair into a pony tail. I can’t wait for my mom to braid my hair again. ✨These are my New Years resolutions. For whom ever is reading this, if all you did was stay alive this year - that’s all that matters. Fuck any respectability capitalist and ableist New Years resolution posts and culture that has us thinking we had to do the *most. The accreditations, the gate keeping and fancy awards— that’s not where it is at. Fuck that type of success. Tell me of your sleeping plans, and how your heart feels. Tell me when you will soak your feet, and when your next therapy or Zumba class is. On this last day of 2021 I’m so happy to know you are still alive with us. Remember I’m rooting for you and your cute hair styles!!! Had my last therapy session for the year and oooof……. ✨✨ all the love and tender to all of us breaking generational traumas and healing from so much hard shit. Healing is not linear, it be hard and goes in circles, it has us time traveling, and going under and above. What a journey we are on. ✨wohoo! Finished my first semester of photography ✨ Studying photography has been my way of nurturing my creativity, and it has connected me deeper with my family’s old Polaroids and photographs ( specially of my grandparents). There is a deeper understanding of how those photographs were potentially shot, which then helps me imagine how my family may have been posing and moving around. As a migrant, I hold this close to my heart. Working from memory and photographs -we are able to keep our ancestors and “home” closer to us. As a #queer #nonbinary person photography has become a way to archive my chosen fam and time travel us into this reality. We exist in these tender ways. In these silly ways. Not in pain but in these soft and real ways. Shout outs to all my muses that helped me turn in my assignments. Y’all are the best models : @l_arely @adinasdoodles and LP. Dad and daddy earlier this week at the screening of #SingleAllTheWay by @netflix . The second queer holiday film in a major platform. We need so many more #Queer holiday films. I can’t wait for many of us feeling seen and represented and also calling the shots behind the cameras. We need love stories and chosen fam stories and stories with our fur babies. Film industry needs to support emerging film makers of color , and more casting roles featuring #Trans and #nonbinary roles specifically #Qtpoc folks. We out here!
