The actual reason I was Florida last week was to visit my Mom, who, because of the pandemic, I haven’t seen in 3 years. It was such a wonderful time!! And I was so happy to see her and hug her and meet her Incredibly Vibrant and cool neighbor Sheila!!!!
And they even threw a birthday party for Becky while we were there!!

We’re back! For a pandemic conscious reopening!
LA’s freshest queer poetry reading series, Influx Collective, welcomes all to our first in-person event after two years of a pandemic-based closure.
Influx Collective’s Queer Poetry Night is a celebration of the work of marginalized writers (mostly QTPOC) and will feature the poets: KB Brookins, Thabile Makue, Lupita Limón Corrales, Steven Van Dyke, and Sonia Guiñansaca. The doors will open at 7:00 pm and entry is a suggested donation of $10—no one will be turned away for lack of funds. There will be no alcohol served at this event. This event will be pandemic-conscious and will require masks, require proof of vaccination for entry, and will be held outdoor (weather permitting).
Influx Collective is run by its co-founder Cori Bratby-Rudd and collaborator Diana Gutierrez. Influx is a queer poetry reading series that connects LA-based poets, promotes queer events, and provides a space and platform for queer creators and queer content. Influx is for audience members to hear stories that reflect their own, and for performers to find an audience who understands. We host events monthly and each reading features new poets and takes place at a different location throughout Los Angeles. This is Alan turing. His genius saved the west from Nazis. He attempted to live honestly and didn’t deny having a male lover when he was questioned about it by officials. His own government then proceeded to have him chemically castrated “for national security reasons.” Coming out is hard and dangerous and should always be celebrated, no matter how common it might seem to us. Living an authentic life as a queer person is always a risk, and often a sacrifice. Next time someone calls for a Straight Pride month, fuck them up.
