Performapal Uni
————————————————
Once per turn, during your Main Phase, if this card was Normal or Special Summoned this turn: You can Special Summon 1 Level 3 or lower “Performapal” monster from your hand in Attack Position. During your opponent’s turn: You can banish 1 “Performapal” monster, except “Performapal Uni”, and this card from your Graveyard; the next time you would take battle damage this turn, you do not (this is a Quick Effect).

As one of the largest archetypes in the game, Perfomapal provides a high variety of mechanics to work along with. Despite their core focus involves Pendulum Summon as well supporting Odd-Eyes monsters, Performapal can break from their most known strategy and think outside the box. Some will barely depend on Pendulum Summon with members not part of said type, while others will provide support to other themes like Magicians. With a massive card pool to experiment with as well promoting Extra Deck diversity, Performapal is unique compared to many other archetype out there due the many variants we can build arround them.

“Performapal Uni” is a monster that provides two vital purposes to keep a solid board pressence during a Duel. In a turn where “Uni” was Normal or Special Summoned, we can summon a Level 3 or lower Performapal from our hand in Attack Position. During the opponent’s turn “Uni” takes a very different role while in the Graveyard, as can banish itself along another Performapal in the Graveyard (Excluding its copies) to nullify any damage we could take from an attack. Clearly a candidate to work as material in early game, “Uni” provides both speed and defense to assist us with our setups and protect us when something goes wrong afterwards.

Given the massive card pool its archetype offers, “Uni” will rarely lack in options to be on the field ready to use its abilities. In various situations “Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer” will do the job of searching for “Uni”, as let us trade two cards on the field (Can be itself one of them) to obtain this monster as well the Performapal we will summon with its effect. Obviously the archetype’s Pendulum Summons can summon “Uni” from the hand, and its effect will assist other Performapal(s) if we work arround Scales not matching its Level. While is preferable to stay on theme with the build “Uni” obtains more options if we explore other options for its arrival, from “Summoner Monk” bringing it out from the Deck or “Fire Formation - Tenki” searching for any Beast-Warrior upon activation. Together with basic revival effects such as “Performapal Friendonkey” unless ends banished by its effect, “Uni” can keep its pressence during a Duel without much effort needed.

“Uni” will rarely lack in monsters to summon with its effect, virtually creating a whole Deck arround its potential setups. While there are various Performapals to choose from to summon by the effect of “Uni”, “Performapal Corn” will be its top priority as will follow its arrival with the ability to obtain an Odd-Eyes monster to our hand. Despite the archetype has no problems to summon from the hand thanks to Pendulum Summon, “Uni” can cover some gaps of this mechanic like saving monsters for later turns or summon those retrieved from the Extra Deck by effects like “Pendulum Paradox” or “Odd-Eyes Phantasma Dragon”. In most cases the arrival of “Uni” and another Performapal will lead to a Link Summon or a Synchro Summon in the case of “Performapal Odd-Eyes Synchron”, but if we work along monsters like “Performapal Friendonkey” and other summoning effects we could aim for other summons as well potentially more expensive. This will follow with “Uni” resting in our Graveyard, either waiting to be revived by any effect available or else be banished to protect us from any powerful attacks that could finish us off. Keep on mind that the Graveyard effect of “Uni” doesn’t need to wait for an attack to happen, so we can activate it in response of any effects that might disrupt our Graveyard instead.

With a summoning effect seen in many current monsters along a Graveyard effect protecting us from lethal damage, “Performapal Uni” is a candidate to start Duels strong by its abilities alone. Although with solid support including “Performapal Corn” and many goals to aim with its assistance, “Uni” main problem comes from the archetype itself. Many of the monsters that “Uni” can summon are Pendulum Monsters, therefore will cover each other with the proper Scales to swarm the field and/or return from the Extra Deck for similar purposes “Uni” offers. If Performapal keeps providing options to their non-Pendulum Monsters “Uni” might have a staple position for that category, but until then it remains an unfortunate case of a card with great potential but lacking in opportunities unless in a Deck exclusively focused arround it.

Personal Rating: B+

+ Summons a Level 3 or lower Performapal from our hand in the turn where was Normal or Special Summoned
+ Banishes itself along another Performapal from the Graveyard to nullify battle damage from an attack
+Solid support

-Performapal already covers similar goals by Pendulum Summon
- Might require its own Deck
