Hello! I haven’t been using Tumblr much recently, and I know I picked up some new followers since starting to post Critical Role drabbles. So here’s a little bit of information on me and my primary fandom stuff.

RL Info: She/her/hers, mid-30s, Librarian/Archivist, living in the Mid-Atlantic USA, married, and mom to a beautiful, amazing little girl (born mid-2019).

Fandoms I Write In: Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Person of Interest, Critical Role.

The Critical Role Thing You Might Know Me From: Parallels, where I thought about, er, parallels between C1 and C2 characters that weren’t just comparisons between the same player’s characters. Note that I wrote this relatively early in C2 - aka in the Molly era, where a lot of secrets had yet to be revealed.

Long-Term Writing Projects: I have a bunch of WIPs, but the ones that I’m most likely to continue are my two Mass Effect Giant Crossovers of Doom.

No More Gallifreys: Mass Effect x Doctor Who (2005). Main characters: Female Shepard and the 11th Doctor. Eleven joins the Normandy mid-ME2; clashes with Shepard at first, makes friends with Mordin and Tali, and learns a surprising truth about himself and his connection to the ME universe.

In retrospect, large-scale crossover was not a great choice for my first foray into fanfic, and I got discouraged for a while - but there was a moment recently where I genuinely wanted to continue, so I ended the 2.5 year gap by resolving one cliffhanger and introducing a far less dramatic one.

Exodus Into Fire:Mass Effect x Battlestar Galactica (2003). Main character: Kara “Starbuck” Thrace; secondary important characters: Female Shepard, William Adama, Sharon “Athena” Agathon, Galen Tyrol, and likely others as the story goes along. The Earth that Starbuck guides Galactica to mid-S4 turns out to be Shepard’s Earth at the beginning of ME3. With Earth not the safe haven they’d hoped for, a multi-species conflict raging around them, and the enemy Cylons still a threat, the Colonial Fleet and their Cylon allies struggle to make a place for themselves in this new universe.

At one point, I’d intended to complete No More Gallifreys before starting this one. Hah. There’s an alternate universe where I had the Mass Effect romance be Male Shepard/Tali instead of Shakarian. Female Shepard was a main character at the start, but Starbuck is now the linchpin. I learned from my previous mistakes and chucked ME canon out the airlock sooner, or kept it offscreen if it wasn’t changed by the presence of BSG characters. I’m determined to fit a crossover romance in there somewhere, besides Starbuck hooking up with Septimus Oraka at Afterlife (why? Because she could).

Fandom Exchanges: After creating an excessive amount of spreadsheets for them, @acequeenking asked me to help moderate the two Bioware Rare Pair exchanges that she started - Spectre Requisitions (Mass Effect) and Black Emporium (Dragon Age). Running these two exchanges has turned me into a serious multi-shipper, and I have fun with both of them every year.

Doing those two also inspired me to create the Exchange of Interest for Person of Interest. This one’s for any and all POI relationships. I love this show so much - the lore is amazing and incredibly detailed, and it has some seriously badass characters that are easily some of my favorites ever. I’m grateful to @livenudebigfoot for co-running with me and look forward to Year 4 in Spring 2021!

Stand-Alone Works: Because of the aforementioned exchange participation, I’ve written a LOT of stand-alone ‘shippy stories in the past few years. Here’s a highlighted one from each canon.

What kind of woman doesn’t have an axe? (ME) - Female Shepard/Aria, with FemShep being basically an expy of Rosa from Brooklyn 99. Set during the Omega DLC for ME3.

Acceptance (DA) - Male Inquisitor/Vivienne, soulmate AU which is really more of a character study of Vivienne (who gets way too much hate).

Straight into the late night (POI) - Carter/Zoe/Shaw; as my recipient put it, Three Women Fix Things Then Make-Out.

So What’s Next?: Another round of Spectre Requisitions starting shortly after the new year; and hopefully more progress soon on my Giant Crossovers (I say that every time. Sometimes it’s true.)

Two updates to this:

RL info: mother of two, baby boy born Fall 2021

Fandoms:On top of everything already mentioned there will be a TON of reblogged Wheel of Time content because that book series is my favorite and has been an important part of my life since I was 14. I am stupidly excited for the show and intend to go back to mentally shrieking about the new trailer as soon as I hit post.

exchange-of-interest:

No initial pinch hits! Yay!

We’d like to take this opportunity to remind you of a couple of rules:
- You must create a fanwork about one character/pairing on your recipient’s Request List. They have to be the main focus of the fanwork. The character/pairing does NOT have to be one that you offered. If you are inspired by something else, you are free to run with it!
- You may not incorporate content in your fanwork that violates your recipient’s squicks/triggers/do-not-wants. Other than that, your recipient’s prompts are guidelines meant to help you get inspired, not absolute musts. You do not have to create content you’re not comfortable with.

Here are a few other things to keep in mind:
-DON’T post publicly about the specifics of your assignment. This includes Tumblr, Dreamwidth, LJ, Discord, or anywhere else. It is okay to say “wow, I’m so excited to get started!” It is NOT okay to say “I’m so excited to write for X”
-DO contact the mods if you have problems with or questions about your assignment. We will handle problems quietly and relay questions so that your recipient remains in the dark about your identity. The mod email is [email protected]

Happy creating!

Goes for 2022 as well!

Signups Open for 2022!

It’s time to SIGN UP for the Exchange of Interest! The mods are providing this guide in hopes that it will make the process smoother for everyone :)

If you’ve participated in exchanges before, our sign up form is pretty straightforward. Just know that a) you must request and offer at least three unique characters/relationships to participate and b) if you want to request/offer fanworks focusing on a single character, type “Character: [Character Name]“ into the Relationships field.

For more information, check under the cut for a full step-by-step guide.

1. Sign in to Ao3

If you don’t have an Ao3 account, contact the mods for help!

2. Go to the Exchange of Interest sign up form

3. Scroll to the “Requests” field

In the Relationship field of each request, please choose either character or a relationship. If you wish to request a fanwork with a focus on a single character, start typing in “Character:” and the form will autofill the options for you.

Otherwise, enter one relationship that you would like to see in a fanwork created for you. Relationships may be romantic (/) or platonic (&). You may select any relationship that is in the tagset.

You may also select Any Relationship. This means that you are willing to receive fanwork for, literally, any tagset character/relationship. Only use this option if you are sure that any is what you want.

Additional Tags: You can request fanfic, fanart, fanvids, podfic, or a remix. You must select one option, but you may select more – up to and including all five.

Letter: If you have written a letter on an external website (such as Tumblr/Wordpress/Dreamwidth/Google Docs), you may link it here. An example of a letter for this exchange has been provided by @keita52, here.

Description: Provide additional detail about what you would like to see in a fanwork, both in general and for specific character(s)/pairing(s). Good things to include are general likes and dislikes, preferred content rating, and Do Not Wants. Remember that anyone who creates fanwork for you must respect your Do Not Wants.

If you do not enter anything into this box, and you do not have a link to a letter, we will assume that means you are okay with anything for the specified character(s)/pairing(s). Please make your preferences and Do Not Wants known. It makes the process smoother for all involved.

Here are some things commonly put in the description box:

  • Likes and Dislikes: It can be very helpful for your creator if they have some idea of what you like to see, and what you don’t. For example: I love Zoe/Reese because they have such chemistry and Reese obviously respects her. Please don’t write me something sad about them.
  • Squicks and Triggers: Stuff you absolutely do not want, stuff that makes you uncomfortable, or just plain stuff that is Not Your Thing. While the Exchange of Interest does not believe in kink shaming or otherwise insulting people for their own personal taste, we do want people to let their artists or authors know what their limits are. You don’t have to give any reasons for this; no x/y/z gives your author plenty of ability to discern where your limits are.
  • Prompts: Prompts can be almost anything. They’re a great way to give your artist or author ideas for what you’d like to receive. This can be a prompt or a question you’d like explored (for example: What if Control got to join Team Machine?) or an idea you’d love to see (Root and Shaw snuggled up in front of a fire, please!) or just a few words of inspiration (Finch/Reese - books, tea, Bear).

You are required to fill out a minimum of two request fields (Required: Relationship, Additional Tags; Optional: Letter, Description).

4. Continue to the “Offers” field

In the Relationship field of each offer, please choose either a character or a relationship. If you wish to request a fanwork with a focus on a single character, start typing in “Character:” and the form will autofill the options for you.

Otherwise, enter one relationship that you would like to see in a fanwork that you create. Relationships may be romantic (/) or platonic (&). You may select any relationship that is in the tagset.

You may also select Any Relationship. This means that you are willing to create fanwork for, literally, any tagset character/relationship. Only use this option if you are sure that any is what you want.

Additional Tags: You can offer fanfic, fanart, fanvids, podfic, or remix. You must select one option, but you may select more – up to and including all five.

Comments to mods: As with your requests, you can provide general likes and dislikes as well as things that you absolutely will not do. This helps the mods find you an appropriate match.

If you do not enter anything into this box, we will assume that means you are okay with anything for the specified characters/relationships.

You are required to fill out a minimum of two offer fields (Required: Relationship, Additional Tags; Optional: Comments to mods).

When you’re done, hit submit! The mods will contact you if anything in your signup needs clarification.

Nominations are open!

The tagset for Exchange Of Interest 2022 is now open! Check out the list of characters and pairings already available and add your favorites. You have 20 nomination slots each, so go wild!

Please make sure you enter Person of Interest (TV) as the fandom. It should autofill.

Use the relationship field to nominate relationships AND characters. This allows for easier matching.

When nominating characters, use the format Character: FirstName LastName. For example Character: Harold Finch. Ao3 will NOT autofill this, so check your spelling before you submit!

When nominating platonic relationships, remember to use the format Character A & Character B

When nominating romantic relationships, remember to use the format Character A/Character B. You may nominate threesomes, foursomes, moresomes, etc.

Crossover relationships are allowed! Please put the fandom for the crossover character(s) in parentheses. Example: Root/Abby Sciuto (NCIS).

Questions? Reply or send an ask! Otherwise, get to nominating!

Exchange of Interest Returns for 2022!

Welcome back, Irrelevants! We are delighted to announce that the Exchange of Interest will return for another year.

Your mods for this round are @keita52 and @livenudebigfoot, with assistance from @st-aurafina.

This is a multimedia fanworks exchange celebrating the characters of the TV show Person of Interest. Participants will sign up to create and receive one brand new fanwork!

Whether you ship Shoot, Rinch, Bear/Happiness, or want something without any shipping — whether you want to create a fanwork or just cheer everyone on — we want you to participate! Nominations will run from April 4th-7th and signups will run from April 8th-17th, with fanworks due on May 29th

A nominations post will be going up on April 4th, and we’ll have a post with details on how to sign up going live on April 8th.

Want more information? Check out the rules and FAQ posts! Or send us an ask!

What are treats?

A treat is an optional work created for the collection. People who are not signed up for the exchange are welcome to create treats, as are participants.

Treats do not need to meet the same criteria as assignments. For example, the minimum word count for fic assignments is 1,000 words, but a treat can be fewer than 1,000 words. However, treats must still respect the recipient’s DNWs (Do Not Wants) and the mods will be checking each and every fanwork submitted to ensure that recipients’ DNWs are respected.

How do I post a treat?

While signed in on Ao3, go to Post->New Work.

From there, you can fill out the information as follows for your work down to this category: Post to Collections / Challenges? When you hit that, go ahead and type in the following: exchange_of_interest_2021.

If you are creating for a specific person’s prompts, be sure to giftthem the work!

What are pinch hits?

Pinch hits are any assignments that are not able to be matched by the mods during the initial matching phase, or any assignments where the creator is unable to finish before the deadline.

For all pinch hits, the mods are using a Google Group. When a pinch hit becomes available, the mods will send an email to the group with the request details. To claim the pinch hit, reply to the mod email ([email protected]) with your Ao3 username. Once it has been claimed, we will send out another email to update its status.

Unless we are past the deadline, pinch hits will be due at the same time as assignments.

How can I get the services of a beta?

We have a Google Group for people to post requests for assistance, as well as for those interested in offering their services.

If you are seeking a beta, please provide the following information:

  • Relationship category (F/F, Het, M/M, Multi, Other, Gen)
  • Rating (use the Ao3 system)
  • Any applicable warnings (Non-con, etc)
  • What you are looking for in a beta
  • What medium you are working in (Fic, Art, Remix, Podfic, Fanvid)
  • For Fic/Remix: Please provide a word count of your draft.

Please double check that your recipient is not the person offering to be your beta! If you are not sure, please ask the mods and we will check for you!

If you would like to offer your beta services, please provide the following information:

  • Relationship categories you prefer (F/F, Het, M/M, Multi, Other, Gen)
  • Ratings you will read (use the Ao3 system)
  • Any Squicks/triggers/Do Not Wants
  • Any beta-ing strengths you possess
  • What medium you are able to assist with (Fic, Art, Remix, Podfic, Fanvid)
  • For Fic/Remix: Please provide the maximum word count you would want to assist with.

No initial pinch hits! Yay!

We’d like to take this opportunity to remind you of a couple of rules:
