Eels in Seals, a Slippery Situation
NOAA researchers monitoring Hawaiian monk seals have noticed a strange phenomenon in the past few years: seals with eels stuck up their noses.
Whether this is due to freak hunting accidents or poorly-executed regurgitation, we do not know.
All afflicted seals have had the eels successfully removed from their noses and have enjoyed full recoveries.
(The eels did not survive.)
