Yes, it’s a good day for singin’ a song, And it’s a good day for movin’ along; Yes, it’s a good day, how could anything go wrong, A good day from mornin’ till night. Yes, it’s a good day for shinin’ your shoes, And it’s a good day for losin’ the blues; Ev'rything to gain and nothin’ to lose, ‘Cause it’s a good day from mornin’ till night. I said to the sun, “good mornin’, sun. Rise and shine, today” You know you’ve gotta get goin’ If you’re gonna make a showin’ And you know you’ve got the right of way 'Cause it’s a good day for payin’ your bills; And it’s a good day for curin’ your ills, So take a deep breath and throw away your pills; 'Cause it’s a good day from mornin’ till night.
My work isn’t really for looking at as that is not my intent. you are not looking at a image of these expressions as a voyeur but for a single moment you “are” these expressions. She is something you wear for just a second and become a part of ….and hopefully it reflects more about you in the wearing than it does about me.

I have always been fascinated with paintings related to Cythera, by the French painter Jean-Antoine Watteau; the Embarkation for Cythera, the Pilgrimage to Cythera, and Les Deux Cousines. In the ancient world, Cythera, one of the Greek islands, was thought to be the birthplace of Venus, goddess of love. The subject of Cythera may have been inspired to Watteau by certain 17th century operas or plays. In Florent Carton Dancourt’s Les Trois Cousines (The Three Cousins), a girl dressed as a pilgrim steps out from the chorus line and invites the audience to join her on a voyage to the island, where everyone will meet their ideal partner. I suppose in uncertain times I feel a call to those Arcadian places of peace and serenity, and it’s worth noting that some aspects of the models and figures in this piece were created in virtual reality using Oculus Quest 2, which is a first for me. The idea of escaping into a virtual environment is directly related to my obsession with dissociation and the paracosms of the stories I have built up in my mind over a lifetime. ~Ray Caesar
One of my many imagined anxieties is a form of agoraphobia, the fear of the outside world, and in my case, an overwhelming astonishment of how huge the sky is above my head. This compounded by my certain suspicious nature that gravity may prove to be a theory that is in fact unproven and fallible. Each day I force myself to put on my coat and shoes and hitch up my little rat terrier “Finnegan” in his vestments and venture out for what I call “My Daily Constitutional”. I think I first heard the term in the 1960s comedic movie “ The World of Henry Orient” with Peter Sellers. As I have now watched that film hundreds of times as it reminds me of my childhood steeped in a dissociative world of my own making. Every single day I stand in front of that door that leads to the outside world and as Finnegan gives me a little mental shove, we are off on one of our many daily constitutionals. I let him guide the way as we walk through the now pandemically empty streets of University of Toronto and like him, I keep my head down and generally try to avoid looking up at that amazing, glorious and stunningly beautiful sky. ~Ray Caesar
“One’s home is like a delicious piece of pie you order in a restaurant on a country road one cozy evening - the best piece of pie you have ever eaten in your life - and can never find again. After you leave home, you may find yourself feeling homesick, even if you have a new home that has nicer wallpaper and a more efficient dishwasher than the home in which you grew up." - Lemony Snicket

The Letter of Intent 2020 by Ray Caesar
I have my books And my poetry to protect me; I am shielded in my armor, Hiding in my room, safe within my womb. I touch no one and no one touches me. I am a rock, I am an island.
As I took another breath, I saw the three stars again. They were not calling to me; they were letting me go, leaving me to the black universe I had wandered for so many lifetimes. I drifted into the black, and it got brighter and brighter. It wasn’t black at all—it was blue. Warm, vibrant, brilliant blue… I floated into it with no fear at all.
And once the storm is over you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, in fact, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.” – Haruki Murakami, Kafka On The Shore

The new works released are prints with an edition size of 5. This one featured is titled “The Quiet Room” Measuring 36 x 50” digital ultra chrome on archival paper edition of 5— The Quiet Room is about rumination and dissociative aspects of my personality. It is a response to all those voices in my head speaking at once and my ongoing struggle to unify those fractured elements of my subconscious reality. She is claiming all the chairs in the room and learning to think as an individual, as it is her territory in a realm of her own time and space. The Quiet room was also a revered place during the years I worked at theHospital For Sick Children in Toronto. This was the sacred room where parents took their last view of a deceased child. I passed this room every night as I left the hospital and it was anything but quiet. I always imagined an Angel sitting quietly in wait to take those children to the next world. “The Story So Far” Ray Caesar Solo show at Gallery House Toronto on through Dec 21 2019 @galleryhouse_belinda [email protected] All The Things We Left Unsaid
There’s a name for separation There’s a name for first and last When it’s all for us or nothing For me the name is past But there’s still time to turn around And make all hatred cease And give a name to all the future And we could call it peace
And if peace is what we pray for And peace is what we give Then peace will be the way we are And peace the way we live
Yes there still is the time to turn around And make all hatred cease And give another name to living And we can call it peace

Xanadu
In Xanadu did Kubla Khan A stately pleasure-dome decree : Where Alph, the sacred river, ran Through caverns measureless to man Down to a sunless sea.
And all who heard should see them there, And all should cry, Beware! Beware! His flashing eyes, his floating hair! Weave a circle round him thrice, And close your eyes with holy dread, For he on honey-dew hath fed, And drunk the milk of Paradise.
“The chief beauty about time is that you cannot waste it in advance. The next year, the next day, the next hour are lying ready for you, as perfect, as unspoiled, as if you had never wasted or misapplied a single moment in all your life. You can turn over a new leaf every hour if you choose.” ― Arnold Bennett

I am convinced that all forms of creativity are the result of the manipulation of both positive and negative energy. We use the bad in our life as much as we use the good, and form them with great difficulty into something new. We take the image formed in our mind and make it a reality…it’s as if we drag that unformed life kicking and screaming from one fragile ephemeral dimension into a dimension of hard cold existence. This is a magical incantation, forged in the flame of inspiration and set in solid form in what we think of as the real world.

I often draw in coffee shops as I find I can feed like a little vampire sucking at everyones else’s caffeine induced energy. Most of the time people leave me alone as I am somewhat invisible and they rarely look up from their cellphones and laptops. Eventually they lay their heads down on the table and fall asleep as I quietly sap and drain them of their vital creative life-force. But…today someone actually spoke to me!!!! …and pointed out that I am “drawing” as if its a rare and questionable practice from another century. I had to politely show them my sketchbook full of odd little drawings that might not be suitable for some sensibilities and for some reason I write down diary notes in this sketchbook of my dreams and tricky emotions and some particularly private stuff like the password to my amazon account. I never tell people that I am an artist …I usually say I just draw to pass the time of day and it keeps me out of trouble. I have often wondered if other energy vampires encounter this situation and if it tends to make them very tired and feel somewhat violated….I had to lay my head down on the table and take a nap after this happened.
“Ray Caesar’s works visualize a vast psychological panorama made up of a blend of personal memory and imagination. His characters act as costumed dolls exploring this diverse terrain: sometimes Rococo, Edwardian or Film Noir, Sci-Fi or Manga. They wander through ice palaces, jungles, and country estates encountering surreal and inexplicable phenomena. Much like a dream, the scenes can be both sweet and horrid, and are coded by experiences lying deep in the artist’s own history. It is a use of the past that explores its surrealistic potential, and its ability to channel hidden parts of the psyche.” - James Freeman Gallery . “Another Country” group show will be on view at @jamesfreemangallery (London, UK) till July 6th, 2019.
