#prosepoetry
Sometimes, people wonder who you really are.
They think they know you based on the things you choose to show them.
Like your photos, or your writing, or the way you are when you are with your friends, or your job, or with someone you love.
People will assume they can see right through you, that they know you better than you know yourself.
But you laugh, and think, “how can they?”
Your friend won’t know you as a lover.
A stranger won’t treat you as a sister.
A boss won’t see you as a follower.
Only you know your thoughts.
Only you can know who you truly are.
When it comes to poetry,
we often feel that writing verses
of our sadness
and disappointment
feel more relatable
and worth writing
But today,
I feel different
Today I don’t feel sad
or angry
or upset at the most trivial
of things
and people
and life
Today I wanted to write
that for the first time
I feel incredible
and happy
and want to celebrate
the wins
that I fought so hard
and so long
to finally have.
Happy is a funny feeling
It’s fleeting
and we all know it
but today
I wanted to enjoy it
even if it’s only
for a little while.
