What if every neighborhood had a public kitchen, like a public library? Global Local Gourmet, Ct Edible Ecosystems, and CitySeed are partnering to raise funds so New Haven will get a taste of what’s possible with a mobile teaching kitchen and more community culinary programming

for New Haven’s neighborhoods. As public institutions—parks, schools, transportation—are privatized, the Public Kitchen imagines going in the reverse direction. With a recipe library and a pantry stocked with spices and ingredients, the Public Kitchen will serves as a resource, gathering place, and refuge to celebrate public life and food culture.

Conceptualized and created by the Design Studio for Social Intervention in Boston, Public Kitchen was an intervention aimed at social and food justice– an experiment in how more vibrant public infrastructures can improve the quality of our lives.
