What if every neighborhood had a public kitchen, like a public library? Global Local Gourmet, Ct Edible Ecosystems, and CitySeed are partnering to raise funds so New Haven will get a taste of what’s possible with a mobile teaching kitchen and more community culinary programming for New Haven’s neighborhoods. As public institutions—parks, schools, transportation—are privatized, the Public Kitchen imagines going in the reverse direction. With a recipe library and a pantry stocked with spices and ingredients, the Public Kitchen will serves as a resource, gathering place, and refuge to celebrate public life and food culture.
Conceptualized and created by the Design Studio for Social Intervention in Boston, Public Kitchen was an intervention aimed at social and food justice– an experiment in how more vibrant public infrastructures can improve the quality of our lives.
Public Kitchen New Haven (based off of the highly successful Public Kitchen in Boston, MA created by the Design Studio of Social Intervention), is a collaboration with CitySeed that seeks to unite people in public spaces over the joy of food and cooking to feast, learn, imagine, unite, and claim public space. Please invest in food and education to create a mobile kitchen and fund food education programming. We appreciate if you can share with your networks too. Thanks in advance for your support of New Haven, New England’s gourmet mecca. http://ignitenewhaven.com/projects/public-kitchen
