#qt appreciation week

LIVE

Aaaaand, bam! My contribution to Queen’s Thief Appreciation Week! It’s pen, watercolor, and colored pencil and was ultra fun to work on.

Last year I did an ominous piece of Gen falling, so this year I pivoted and did happily ever after.

It’s got all your basic moving parts: Gen and Irene heading up to the crenellations,

Phresine loving on baby Hector while baby Eugenia drops a stolen earring that matches her dad’s (with her mountain goat plushie nearby),

Helen and Sophos just being stupid cute with their wee heir, while the Magus still studies his map and Pol’s sword leans on the wall beneath the three countries’ banners,

Your pantheon of deities, with the Great Goddess at the center,

Teleus and Relius enjoying each other’s company while Pheris (now with mobility aid!) ignores them (also there’s a pigeon),

Costis and bespectacled Kamet with a plate of nut cakes, and a familiar author in the background with her stack of six books,

And, finally, our long-awaited elephant, while two of Gen’s attendants search for their king.

Happy Queen’s Thief Appreciation Week!!!

Hey QT Appreciation Week(s), I haven’t forgotten about you, but my laptop isn’t friends with my Cintiq anymore so I’m having to do this the old fashioned way. In the meantime, please enjoy the photo below of Running Eagle Falls in my current office space, Glacier National Park. It has an upper falls and a lower one that emerges from a hidden cave, so it reminds me of the temple falls in The Thief.

Alright lovelies

How we feeling for qtappreciation week? Do we wanna do a two week thing again or just one? Do we want something even wilder than that??? What days and themes do we want to do? Here’s the list ones we have done so far:

  • Favorite book
  • Favorite character
  • Favorite ship
  • Favorite supporting character
  • Moment you fell in love with the series
  • Between the lines/missing moment
  • Favorite location
  • Favorite symbol
  • Favorite line/moment
  • Favorite myth/folktale
  • Au day
  • Music day
  • Quote Swap
  • Platonic Relationships
  • Favorite Outfit
  • Favorite parallel
  • Fancast
  • Favorite country

And here are some I thought up that we could do that are new (we’ve done all the suggested ones basically lol, so feel free to throw in a million more suggestions):

  • Favorite story arc
  • Favorite trope/archetype (or just a Trope/Archetype Day)
  • We could split it up like “People of Attolia” “people of Eddis” “people of Sounis” “people of the Medean Empire”
  • We could also split it up into “gods” “royals” “peasants” “nobles” “slaves”

Let me know your thoughts! I was thinking mid to late June for the dates would work well. No major holidays, it’s summer, and it’s far off so people have time to plan.

I was also…..thinking of designing like a Queen’s Thief Graphic Challenge. I don’t know how many days, but like other people have those month long challenges like here for fandoms and I started the descendants graphic challenge. It’s a way to get some stuff into the tag, get people making stuff but you do it at your own pace!

Queen’s Thief Appreciation, Day 2: The Queen of Attolia – the books/characters as things my friends and I have said

One of the major twists for me was the complete transformation of my opinion of Attolia Irene. I started rooting for her ever since we got her background story, and by the time “Diplomacy, in my own name” rolled around, I was fully infatuated.

Queen’s Thief Appreciation, Day 6: Return of the Thief – the books/characters as things my friends and I have said

In honor of Pheris’s hilarious horror at grown-up things.

Queen’s Thief Appreciation, Day 7: Short Stories – books (or in this case, short stories)/characters as things my friends and I have said

I had trouble deciding which of my 3 quotes to go with, so I decided to draw really sketchy versions of all of them. Happy short stories day!

Queen’s Thief Appreciation, Day 3: The King of Attolia – books/characters as things my friends and I have said

This book… just has to be my favorite one. The way Eugenides is revealed again and again draws me back to it again and again. Plus Costis, poor Costis <3

Queen’s Thief Appreciation, Day 5: Thick as Thieves – the books/characters as things my friends and I have said

The lion’s den is one of the best episodes of this book, so I hunted for a fitting quote.

queen’s thief appreciation week(s) - day nine: quote swap

eugenides attolis & jaime lannister

[ID one: a photograph of a black hook prosthetic with gold details on a gold-orange brocade background. There is text at the top of the image reading “He begged, ‘Please, please,’ as if his heart were breaking.” There is text over the hook reading “His right hand disappeared under the blade.” There is text at the bottom reading “He made no sound.”]

[ID two: A dark blood red color.]

[ID three: A golden prosthetic hand resting on a wooden table. There is text at the top reading “He was a Lannister of Casterly Rock, Lord Commander of the Kingsguard; no sellsword would make him scream.” There is text on the hand reading “It came shivering down, almost too fast to see.” There is text at the bottom of the image reading “And Jaime screamed.”]

Queen’s Thief Appreciation, Day 4: Conspiracy of Kings – books/characters as things my friends and I have said

The fact that Sophos used force in the end despite being the so-called bunny of the series is simultaneously devastating and funny, especially since we’re used to sneaky sneaky politics and scheming from Gen. (Not that Sophos wasn’t veritably sneaky in his own right.) It was completely unexpected and yet right!

For QT appreciation quote swap day, here are things my friends have said that fit QT characters

Gen, obviously.

Literally everyone??? Kamlet, Costis, Sophos, and of course it has big genergy

Hm. Maybe magus, maybe someone else… periphys a little bit.

Queen’s Thief Appreciation, Day 1: The Thief – in my saga of QT books/characters as things my friends and I have said.

I wanted to participate in qtappreciationweek this year, but didn’t have the time to create any serious, meaningful pieces that would properly honor and embody my all-encompassing love for these books, so I’ve come up with the happy medium of… memery.

I’ve come to the conclusion that my silly contribution to this fun celebration isn’t totally out of place, because it does encapsulate one of the reasons I was first drawn into the series: the humor. My gods, the humor. From the moment Gen splayed his body by the side of the road, content to endure his new life as a landmark, I was enraptured. I adore Gen’s unbridled, raw snark in The Thief.

QT’s Appreciation Week: Part IV

A quote from an Ancient Greek author that gave a perfect portrayal of Gen’s personality (and in a way, strategy).

P.S.: In all honesty, this series came to my mind the very first time I stumbled upon this quote.
