“I’ll never forget my first grade teacher, Miss Laraby. She was from WhateverShire, England. She looked like an old, pissed off 1960s go go dancer. She was strict. Bluntness was the showpiece in her arsenal of psychological weapons. One day while pacing the classroom she posed that ol’ classic kid question: “what do you want to be when you grow up?” I nearly shatnered myself, listening to her critique the job choices of the other 6 yr olds like an army drill instructor. One kid got all “I’m only 6” about it & said, “I wanna be a Super Hero”. To which she replied, “Christopher you’re neither super, nor heroic.” To a 6 yr old? Haha… That’ll teach you & your Shitty little dreams. Needless to say, when it was my turn I was petrified. There she was leaning over me, hands on her hips, waiting…Hold on, I left something out. First time I ever seen a biker type dude, was on the annual “it’s summer, so let’s drive the family to northern Idaho to see your aunt Pam” trip. I remember staring at him as he passed us thinking, “Who the fuck is this guy? where the fuck is he going? How come he gets to carry a big knife?“. I wanted to be him. He just seemed like the type of guy who didn’t have to drink his Goddamn milk if he thought milk was gross. Milk. Eww. But I digress… Anyway, when Miss Laraby got to me I just blurted out, "I wanna ride around on a motorcycle”. She raised one eyebrow, straightened up, then turned & informed the class “Joshua wants to be free.” I was stunned. Joshua wants to be free?? Ha! Crazy lady. So true. Nowadays, when I wanna get out the way of the world or listen to the music in my head or see the area I’m in, really see it or… shit, just hear myself think, I go for a ride. When I’ve a moment to spare & no time to lose. I get focused, relaxed, amped, stoked, clear headed. I’ve been hit, broke down, towed, rained on, froze, burnt, cramped, piston fire through the head & almost lost my nuts, flat front tire, sore, sleepy & faaahking pissed. But I don’t mind. Why? Joshua wants to be free… If you don’t do it, you don’t get it. But to Miss Laraby & the rest of you who do, I say; Keep safe & Get Free.“

Queens of the Stone Age frontman says he finds writing songs harder than ever

Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme has admitted he finds songwriting harder than ever before.

Speaking on the Let There Be Talk podcast (via Ultimate Guitar),Homme opened about the challenges of his creative process.

When asked, “If you look at your long run of what you’ve done, does it come few and far between now when you sit down and start writing, or does it come out easy?”, Homme replied:

“Based on what my dad said, which was, ‘If you’re doing something for 20 years and it’s not easier, you’re doing it wrong.‘”

“The truth is, I probably shouldn’t use that one or have said it because I find writing songs much harder than it’s ever been. But I understand why.”

He continued: “In the beginning, you’re inspired and you haven’t done anything yet, and that naivete and inexperience – all your choices are just like, ‘This feels good,’ and that’s it. ‘Josh feel good. Josh walk forward. Josh play this.'”

“It’s so simple in that way. But then you’ve exhausted that phase. I like moving slow through the artistic phases, it feels like you maybe only get three – three sounds about right.”

“The beginning – I didn’t want to get out of that phase so I stayed there a, while which was good. Can’t stay there too long, if you don’t go to the next one then you’re copying yourself or you’re not growing.

“And you’re either growing or dying. And there’s no stasis so you gotta grow into the next phase. And I think some people rush through those phases, some people don’t get to those other phases but that next one for songwriting feels like, ‘OK, lyrics are starting to be important to me, and I realize I have patterns of words so I can’t do that all the time…'” he said.

Homme continued to reveal that he feels like he’s”standing on top of the pile of the things [he’s] done and the view is different but the pile is rickety.”

“The higher the pile gets of things you’ve done, the better the view gets though. It’s incredible and I just feel as though, at this point, I can tip my hat to things I’ve done in the past, which feels nice,” he said.

“Feels like, ‘Oh this is the cousin of regular John. That’s what that is and it feels. But I have to keep going forward,’ and that gets more treacherous, standing on that pile gets more difficult now.”

A great cover of one of my favorite Queens of the Stone Age songs

“I Sat By The Ocean” is not a stereotypical Queens of the Stone Age song. While they’re known form more psychedelic desert cock rock, this particular song is way more emotional and introspective.

I’ve been listening to …Like Clockwork again, and remembered the collection of promotional videos they did for the album. It acts as a great 15 minute preview of the album if you’ve never listened to it before, the art style is just brilliant and it looks amazing on my 4K TV.

Does anyone have this without the caption?, If so, send it to me please D:! I need it!

Getting messy while listening to “I Appear Missing” by Queens of the Stone Age on repeat

With my toes on the edge it’s such a lovely view
I never loved anything until I loved you
I’m over the edge, what can I do?
I haven’t a thing unless I have you
