AI’s Self-Portrait

IBM Research asked AI to create a self-portrait. And the result (shown here) was published in the New York Times on October 19. Creating the image required a lengthy training program. First, the system identified a core visual concept of AI by ingesting over 3,000 articles about AI from the NYT, which it narrowed down to a human and robot shaking hands. Then, it was trained on a data set of over 1,000 images of robot and human hands in order to draw a new image. And, finally, it was trained with samples of NYT cover art so that the final creation would fit the publishers’ visual style. The resulting original art piece portrays AI and human creativity working together, hand in hand.

Happy Autistic Pride Day! ✨

The above picture is just me and the below is a bunch of the SENSORY anthology contributors together (Credit to Schnumn/Bex for assembling)

By the way, the flag in the background is the trixic flag, which is basically non-binary people who like women (non-exclusive, similar to “sapphic” for wlw). Really vibing with it lately.

The Artist w/ his wife Isabella Brant in the Honeysuckle Bower (c. 1609)
Oil on canvas, 178 x 136.5 cm.
Alte Pinakothek, Munich

Directly after his return from Italy, the 32-year-old Rubens married the 18-year-old Isabella Brant. This double portrait, which broke new ground in portrait painting, was purportedly done shortly thereafter. Rubens did not however give up using traditional symbolism: Honeysuckle was a well known symbol for faithfulness and hands laid over one another (“dextrarum iunctio”) have symbolized matrimony since ancient times. However these references are integrated into this snapshot-like scene in which middle-class contentedness, substantial affluence and strong affection are expressed.

Rubens is one of the featured artists in the MWW gallery:
