Here is my “Witch” self.

Lately I’ve been inspired by black metal and it’s subgenres. It’s been one of the most influential aspects of my life as of late.  Brought me closer to elements, awareness of self, the expression of pain, loss, acceptance of passings, and the epicness of wild forces.

Also has brought a new style I’ve been experimenting with in terms of grunge, digital editing and collage.

I’m so blessed to have spent the time, with my family, and the friends I love,

I started this illustration back when I was working on another Quick Draw theme. It’s from one of my favorite songs, and since this is the last QDC post I’ll be making, it felt right to finish in the new year.

Thank you to everyone who stuck around until the end, and to the lovely and talented people who made QDC something I looked forward to every month. I’m happy to be here, and really looking forward to the future. Cheers!

For the theme of “Gratitude,” I decided to do a self portrait with lots of injuries to symbolize all the times I’ve gotten knocked down in my life.  Every setback has made me more interesting and more wise, and I would not be the artist I am today without having taken a few mental beatings!  Here’s to the last month of QuickDraw and to a Happy New Year!

For the last ever QDC theme, I lettered out the phrase ‘All’s Well’ in felt to markedly appreciate the upswing of the year and time since joining QDC.

Thank you guys so much for hanging out with the progression we’ve all gone through as a group, and thank you @jessicaroux (Jessica Roux!) for keeping all of us together for so long!

Happy New Year!!

After reflecting on all of the things I’m thankful for, which is a lot, I decided to design a thank you card.

It was tricky, being a silk screen novice and having to rig a makeshift studio in my kitchen, but I wanted to make a little something to show my gratitude.

Thanks to our fearless leader @jessicaroux, my collective members and friends over the past 3 years, and our followers for sticking it out with us to the very end!

jadeaj58:

I can hardly believe it’s December already. I’ve spent the beginning of this month wrapping up some personal projects, one of which was the BLKGRRRL zine I worked on with @leonhascal which you can read in its entirety here.

It felt good to contribute to something meaningful that I can strongly relate to. As I close out 2015 and think about what 2016 has in store for me, I hope I’ll be involved in more collaborative projects like this in the future. We’ll see!

What I’m working on!

So this was a fun painting.  I accidentally got teal drips on her face TWICE and had to redo it.  Boooooo, gravity!  Also this book is made up.  So there’s that.  I imagine it’s told in flashbacks, and takes place in the mountains in Virginia.  And the ending is bittersweet.  Maybe when my hand falls off from painting I’ll write it some day.  Through dictation of course.

November’s been busy!

Since NOCAZ, I’ve been fleshing out some diary comics. Most are passing thoughts or the odd snippet of conversation, but this one plus a couple others revolving around being a young black woman will be compiled into a zine my friend Jamia and I are collaborating on.

Look forward to it!

P.S. You can still get a cat pin or dome print here!

What I’ve been up to this month!
