Seeker, Chaser, Keeper by VivacissimoVoce

Harry/Draco (2013, Mature, 59k)

Rumor has it that a wealthy investor is starting up a brand new professional Quidditch team and he’s looking for players. Harry and Draco both want to make the team, but there can be only one Seeker. Will competing for the position bring them closer or drive them further apart?

Excerpt:

Being with you is like joining an exclusive club. It’s up to me to decide whether I want to pay the membership fee.“

"But I can’t promise I’m worth the membership fee,” Draco said seriously.

"I think you are,” Harry shrugged. “You don’t seem to realize all of your own amenities.”

This is easily one of my top favorite Quidditch fics and I’ve reread it many times by now. I love it so much, and not only because of the genius title. The not-so-slow burn is fantastic and their witty and gentle chemistry is a delight to read, lots of flirting and banter as competition and attraction get intertwined and give us the best of both worlds. The Quidditch scenes are quite fascinating, so lively, detailed, creative and full of adrenaline. I love how the story really focus on flying and explores Harry and Draco being free, brave and competent in their element. It’s only fitting that their romance would develop alongside their professional routine. Despite covering both the 8th year and the immediate post-Hogwarts period, this fic flew by and kept my attention at all times, thanks to a lovely ensemble and character development. The alternate POVs work really well for the specific dynamics the author builds here - they’re rivals, friends, lovers and colleagues all at once, and despite the initial tiny bit of angst, it feels organic and refreshing in a way I haven’t seen in other fics. There’s something sweet and almost innocent about how they fall in love. Kudos to the deliciously gentle yearning and the way they decide to just embrace the pull; I love how smitten and vulnerable they are around each other another feel-good must read!
