do you think that when reigen said he hopes he can become a partner that doesn’t distort someone else,, that he didn’t realize he actually already is that kind of person.., (the answer is no, of course he didn’t realize)
he’s someone that doesn’t change the people that he meets and cares about, and rather encourages and supports them.. no matter who they are, and not just in the context of being a partner (such as with how he helped mob, or maybe even with those claw members). reigen is this brightness in others lives, even if he doesn’t realize it. he’s someone that others can (probably) depend on, he may not have any psychic abilities himself but he has a way of helping others realize their own potentials and strengths, and he comforts them with the words that they want to hear..,
with mob, while he did initially think that mob would be a great way for his business to take off and make money, overtime (obviously) he genuinely came to care for him,, and he didn’t tell mob to hide who he was and to never use his abilities, and instead he told him that useful metaphor about knives, and he encouraged mob to be who he was, and that he wasn’t a bad person, and he helped him be more comfortable with who he was and didn’t make him feel ashamed or anything like that, he just helped him with comforting words even as he didn’t know exactly what might have been happening, and he continues to support mob in what he does
and then with serizawa - just. i just. i’ve talked about their relationship before, but also., the fact that he wasn’t someone who *forced* serizawa into using his powers or working for him., but instead gave him the opportunity to do so, opening up that path for him if he wanted to go down it. a gentle reminder that “hey, if you want to.., you can work for me” instead of going like “i can control you. i can give you exactly what you need” (.., toichiro). and that’s just how reigen works. he offers reminders and support and opens up opportunities for others and he doesn’t make them change who they are to “fit in,” he accepts people and he works with them, he doesn’t make them feel ashamed of abilities they can’t control, or make them hide aspects of themselves
(and., o-o maybe that’s bc reigen himself hides who he is and his deeper thoughts/fears, so by proxy he ends up ironically being so okay with others being themselves.., he hides parts of himself but he is more than okay with others not having to do that, or wanting to do that..)
