Bear with me, guys. Remember Maya’s stage during her duel with Karen in episode 3? It’s this… high.
Surely, she had been using this stage since to assert her dominance over her rivals. Maya distanced herself using staircases, towers, and columns and used this as her main tactic, probably to tire her opponents before facing her. Karen, during her first duel against Maya, could not even change the landscape of the stage; she remained trapped in it until she lost. Karen (prior to her reunion with Hikari in episode 4) only cut the rope of a meager chandelier. But to be fair, the Revue the Giraffe presented was not in her favor. (Karen’s Pride as a butai shoujo could never rival Maya’s).
Then, imagine Claudine’s duel against Maya in episode 2. We learned in episode 10 how Claudine can be very destructive on stage:
And we may assume how Maya can be so cheekywith altering the topography of her stage to her advantage. When she wants you to feel so inferior, to see how far you can fall down to the ground, she won’t hesitate. Remember how she humiliated Karen by dropping her to a giant stuffed swan from a steep slide?
Anyone subjected to that will never appear graceful and dignified, especially if that tactic caught a dueler by surprise.
But, this happened. Maya versus Claudine.
Reduced to rubble. Both of them were standing on a pile of rubble at ground zero. It was also raining, so probably at some point in their duel, ceilings have been destroyed. The only difference is that Maya won and Claudine lost. What were they thinking, feeling about this duel and about each other that ruined the stage to this.
Now, imagine that ferocious battle that we never saw.
Hello! I subbed the Revue Starlight movie back in December (the one that has color coded dialogue) - this is my first post because I was too much of a coward to make an account anywhere then.
To put it simply, I was not satisfied with my original work, which had mistakes from mishearing and also just misinterpreting things. It was rushed for various reasons, and I really regret not being more patient with it. I don’t think the mistranslations impact any plot points of the movie, it’s really more in the specifics, but I misrepresented some things I consider to be important, and for that I am truly very sorry.
After not touching it for 2 months and then working on it in all of my spare time for the past month, I finally!!!! finished the revised version and a widescreen version, since I had originally done it letterboxed. I think the widescreen version is actually more readable, so that’s one more thing to bonk my past self on the head for, but the letterboxed version has its merits too. They can be found on nyaa and anidex like before, and to make sure this appears in the tag, I’ll add links in a reblog!
Now I’m going to ramble a lot about the fixes I made and translation decisions and other things under the cut… it’s going to read like half a callout for myself and half a defense, and half just fun rambling about translation (yes that’s 3 halves) so do with that what you will…!
