My first second-doctor was David Tennant, the Tenth Doctor. If you’ve been following my blog for any amount of time, you know who my favorite NuWho doctor is. The Ninth was my first doctor, and I still am very attached to him, so when it came time for him to regenerate, it was the most emotional doctor who experience for me ever. I remember when Ten showed up, and I wanted Nine back desperately. I even hated the fact that Ten was with Rose, cause I always had (and still do) shipped Rose x Nine. Even now, though I’ve come to accept their pairing, I still think Rose belongs with Nine.
My advice to any Whovians who are about to experience their first regeneration is:
1. Let the feels flow. It’s ok.
2. Keep an open mind with the new Doctor. He’s not my favorite, but I really grew to love David Tennant, despite my cries of “BRING BACK NINE” during “The Parting of the Ways.” Who knows, you may love the new Doctor just as much or even more than the previous one.
3. Accept the regeneration. Take Nine’s attitude, and the attitude of many classic doctors, when it comes to regeneration. Change is a part of what it means to be human, as well as Time Lord. You may or may not like the next doctor, but keep in mind that the change of regeneration is what makes the show beautiful. Everyone has a different doctor and companion that they identify with. So, if you miss your old doctor, pop in the DVD or turn on Netflix and watch some of his old episodes for old time’s sake. But always remember, change is good. In fact, when it comes to Doctor Who, change is FANTASTIC!
