About the NFT The piece I created for Hendricks Gin is called “Persephone” and is about the loss of loved ones to the pandemic. Persephone is a symbol of hope after a hard winter, being the Goddess of spring and new growth. The promise that spring and growth will return and that all seasons have cycles is central to the myth.
The story of Persephone has always intrigued me as she took what was forced upon her and made the underworld itself into a heaven for the blessed-on Earth. Her story is one of empowerment and making the best of a bad situation. The very concept of making a hell into a home was created by Persephone and instead of waiting to be rescued by some hapless hero, she turned hell itself into a heaven by sheer will and determination. In this piece the Goddess of the underworld is awaiting the arrival of those coming to the underground station of Elysian Fields. The realm of Elysium is the part of Underworld reserved for the Blessed and the Heroic and Good. The helmet or mask of thorns is a sign of protection from harm.
Persephone is sometimes depicted as the ruler of the underworld and sometimes as the wife of Hades but it’s obvious in any version of the myth of who was really in charge. Persephone, who was known for her gentle kindness, had Hades on bended knee and had him create light and hope in the land of darkness and death by simply having a vision of kindness. Poor Hades …he simply had no idea of what he was getting himself into when he brought light, love and hope and kindness into his dark realm.

I am so grateful for all the support and love that I’ve received. It is such a blessing to have my solo show opening on my birthday and to be able to spend it with my love ones.
“Bare” is an interactive solo art show that offers a unique and intimate experience by local Artist Fiona Tang. Tang invites viewers to discover hidden animals with the use of blacklight flashlights. The show reveals a glimpse into Tang’s mental struggles in the most bare form.
“Bare” invites viewers to get close and experience the artwork. At first glance, the atmosphere of each drawing seems empty, and bare but the viewers are given the key - a blacklight flashlight, to unlock what’s hidden within each drawing. Through the use of blacklight flashlights, animals emerge from the dark. These hidden animals represent Tang’s mental health condition of feeling trapped with anxiety and depression in the past year. Tang has felt robbed, invisible, and silenced by her own mental health, and the struggles are buried beneath the surface. One that struggles with mental health may look physically healthy, but are unwell inside. Tang is often known for her large scale drawings of powerful and fierce animals such as tigers, however, this show takes a different approach where the fighting animals are caged in the depths of the drawings. Come take a dive into the world of invisible.
Sneak peak of my upcoming solo show “Bare”. One of my most intimate shows yet.
This show focuses on my battle with anxiety and depression in the past year, where I felt trapped, robbed, invisible and silenced by my own mental health, which is represented by the animals drew with invisible ink.
Through the use of blacklight flashlights, the viewers are invited to come close to the drawings to unleash and discover the animals that are trapped within the artist. A metaphor for how my close ones had helped me reopened my heart and heal, by seeing me and staying close to me.
If you are feeling the same, please know that you are not alone. I see you and I am with you.

After an year of being “homeless” (without a studio) and feeling trapped within a cage, this little tiger has finally found her new home. Thank you so much @artscouncilnw @thegalleryqp for creating a studio for me within The Gallery at Queen’s Park. I’m so touched and grateful for the opportunity and space.
I cannot wait to see what I will create here. - - - - - - - - #drawing #fineart #charcoal #carandache #chalkpastel #graphite #fionatangart #arts_help #artist_features #wildlife #wwfcanada #wildlifeart #mural #trompeloeil #artnet #animal #artcollective #art_conquest #fionatang #saatchiart #Saatchigallery #opusartsupplies #wildlifeartist #blickartmaterials #emilycarrunista #wacfeature #Connect2Earth #tiger #tigers #artiststudio https://www.instagram.com/p/CUyBLarBKNJ/?utm_medium=tumblr
“Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.”- Rabindranath Tagore

I’ve been posting on my stories about my mural at James Thompson Elementary but realized I have never posted it in my feeds!
I’m incredibly grateful for being selected for the mural and all the connections and engagement with the teachers, students, City, and the principal. It’s been an uplifting journey so far and I cannot wait to show everyone the finished product.
This is what my artistic process looks like:
1. Research, gather ideas from students about what the school motto is and what does “Thompson Tigers” mean to them. I discovered it meant “Thinking, Learning, Caring”. 2. With the motto in mind I drafted up the tigers that represents each word. 3. I then turned my sketches into digital work and worked on the colours. 4. Transferring the artwork onto the wall using sharpie, 5. Started painting on the wall.
Here is what the mural looks like so far! I will also be adding grass and greenery and butterflies to it too. What do you think is the most interesting so far? Final #Handpicked highlights from our specialists @noah_postwar: ‘Sad to say that it’s the last day to view the wonderful works of #100xHandpicked artists selected by the #SaatchiGallery at Christie’s, Rockefeller Center! Shown here are #MatthewBrannon #RuthRoot #HumaBhabha and #KhalifKelly. Looking forward to an exciting sale tomorrow morning at 10am EST.’
Behold #HenryTaylor The Young, the Brave, Bobby Hutton R.I.P. Oakland, California. 2007. This painting is a major highlight of #100xHandpicked artists selected by the #SaatchiGallery in New York on 22 March. Taylor’s portrait of slain Black Panther Bobby Hutton, murdered by cops as a teenager in 1968, is a powerful elegy for a young man whose unjust killing galvanized the Civil Rights movement. Taylor has effaced Hutton’s features and renders his shirt with thick yellow impasto. The painterly figure contrasts strikingly against the flat charcoal gray background, where fragments of an American flag are scratched into a decaying wall. Come see it in person - we’re open today until 5pm!
Henry Taylor (b. 1958) “The Young, the Brave, Bobby Hutton” R.I.P. Oakland, California, 2007 Estimate: $35,000 - $45,000 (at Christie’s)
A highlight from @noah_postwar: I’m delighted to announce that our New York exhibition of #100xHandpicked artists selected by the #SaatchiGallery opens today at Rockefeller Center! Here is an image of #MatthewBrannon’s epic “Switching Positions,” 2006, being installed last night. The artist has transformed the menacing silhouettes of various knives into a nearly abstract grid of hard-edged black shapes. This intense design can be installed in any size using either vinyl or enamel paint. Clearly, we chose to go big. Really, really big. We’re open today through the 21st - don’t be shy to stop by and say hello!
Matthew Brannon (b. 1971), Switching Positions, 2006. Estimate: $5,000-$7,000
Handpicked: 100 Works Selected by the Saatchi Gallery, March 22 (at Christie’s)
