In the Crepusculan language, Assa taught her a word expressing the regret that a moment passing cannot be enjoyed to its full extent, its scope being too large. They used it to refer to the storm in the morning, and Michael pointed out the storm lasts forty-six revolutions, eighty-nine years, and that day rose every thirty-six hours. Assa did not understand Michael’s numbers and repeated the interlocked movement and accompanying purr.
She did not grasp their point then.
