Complex Loop Sculpture That Combines The Past And The Future
Artist Chris Fox is the artist who has created “Interloop” a monumental sculpture that is hanging from Sydney Wynyard Station ceiling, a modern twist played on an ancient escalator.
The wooden escalator had been in use for eight decades now and just when it was time for it to retire, Fox has given it a new life in the form of Interloop. The sculpture loops together two pairs of reconfigured escalators that are more than 50 metres long where the artist has incorporated 244 wooden treads and four combs from the station’s original wooden escalators. Being from Sydney himself, Chris Fox, through his this piece, has found a way to connect the journeys made in the past to the ones that needs to be made in this historic station. Fox also explains that Interloop is intended to permanently reflect the motion of the escalators and to communicate to the that passengers that they should remain stationary while riding them.
