Aokigahara: a forest in japan widely known for the number of suicides which take place there. In many years the total amounts to over 100 deaths. The most popular method of suicide is hanging. The forest grows on a volcanic plain laid down by mount Fuji’s eruption in the 9th century. There is little wildlife and trees grow so thickly that the forest is almost totally silent. Tourists visiting the forest often unroll string or tape behind them so they can trace their way back through the forest’s dozens of winding paths without getting lost.
