The Clash backstage at Shea Stadium in New York, circa 1982.

Ok well I was going to try and double back and roundup the rest of the bands I neglected from before but it’s virtually impossible to not want to sit down and write this Lodro bit now so I’m just going to.

LODRO. Opened for Napoleon, Slander and Weekend at Shea Stadium on 4/26 or 27 or something and I couldn’t believe how unshakably attached I was to their live show. It would be the first of 3 times that I’ve seen them in the past 3 weeks and every single time is exactly what you’re hoping for from the same band you saw not-particularly-long-ago. I couldn’t even tell if the set was exactly the same I didn’t even care I was singing along to dark basslines I was humming scathing guitar bits immediately after a song finished. It makes sense that they’re being picked up for what seems like every gig in New York City right now. I’ll probably be at them. EDIT: Now that I think about it I haven’t found a list of their upcoming shows anywhere I just see the name on an event and change every single one of my plans to make it. Follow them onTwitter for updates as to when these are.

Other tidbits that can be easily found other places on the internet: Lesley used to play bass in Friends and all three of them are mems. Royal Baths so their quality isn’t exactly untested.

I saw Advaeta on the same night as Bueno back in January and tbh…I was ready to hate on these guys so hard when I saw them setting up. I was actually only really at Shea that night to do some recon for a party we were throwing but I’m never one to LEAVE a show I’m already at without checking some stuff out. Amanda’s guitar seemed huge–like, shes-going-to-fall-off-her-wedges-stop-wearing-those-and-playing-that huge. Something about their setup just couldn’t prepare me for the coming noisefest. Long-form crash festival with just enough riff to keep you from denouncing it as the whole world going to hell. I really liked it…visited their bandcamp for a while (pretty sure now that it was work keeping me from giving them and Bueno a thorough repeating) but would definitely see again. Which is convenient cuz they play @ Shea on 4/27 with Speedy Ortiz, Aye Nako and Butter The Children.

Excited to be back on the radar with TUC. We’ll be at Shea Stadium on April 5 for the rescheduled [Spring] Warriors show with Wild International,Talkfine, and Jangula

If you have a Tune-Yards cover as part of your set you will be followed closely. By me.  Wild Intern

Wild International played the closing slot of a show at Shea Stadium with Spires, Life Size Maps and Dinowalrus. I ended up there after seeing an awesome performance at the Eugene Lang school in the city with some Napoleon folks and was already in the mood to get down but could never have prepared for WI’s catchy, punchy, layered guitar/percussion-synthony of precisely what I wanted to hear at the time. While I wasn’t quite drunk enough to have acted a complete fool in the front, I definitely got my dance on. They also list “Vermont” as one of their influences on Facebook so that’s an extra endearment. Their “Lake Tones” EP is avails via their bandcamp for $7. Do it.

I couldn’t find a video of the setup that I experienced, but this one is still good.
