Did you know Guinea Pigs are also subject to becoming Easter gifts? I didn’t either until I spoke with a pet store employee the other day and heard that they are purchased with the same frequency as rabbits around Easter time.
Help stop the madness. Spread the word that animals are living creatures, not things to give as gifts. No matter their species, they all need us to speak for them.
I promise, I’m getting back on track with this project! Hectic life has slowed down again and I am excited to share more beautiful shelter animals with you all! This coming week I am going to have a special focus on small animals considering how this is one of the worst weeks for them getting purchased for the sake of peoples’ holiday decorations. I will get more into that later ;)
I have had a busy few days, so I deeply apologize for slacking on Shelter Pet a Day. Both of my rats passed away, so today I am bringing up a wonderful rat we adopted in 2011 in their honor. Meet Saki. She was probably the greatest rat we have ever had and she was from the Humane League of Lancaster where I used to volunteer.
Saki would come when called, was allowed free roam because of her great listening skills, and was very outgoing and friendly. She loved anyone she met and was a very intelligent rat. I can safely say she is deeply missed by the entire family despite it being years since we lost her.
This is just a personal story on how awesome shelter animals are - the big and the small.
