so like i have been seeing more and more shipcourse nonsense moving around the community and i just wanted to get my frustrations abt it out bc i find shipcourse absolutely wild… it makes no sense
the labels “pro ship” and “anti ship” mean actually nothing. i’ve met people who state that they identify as “anti ship” because they believe that content can be written but should be heavily tagged and difficult to find. i’ve met people who identify as “pro ship” for the exact same reason
these words have such little meaning that these “opposing sides” can have the exact same beliefs and use the opposite labels for it. people have to spend so much time clarifying that they’re “anti ship but not in the [x] way” or “pro ship but not in the [y] way” that it is literally more efficient to not use the words at all. seeing as you have to spend all your time clarifying what your opinions actually are… what’s the point?
and anyways… what does it have to do with the mogai community? we are literally just here making terms and flags… there aren’t any ships going on here… how would you ever find out their beliefs if what they read and write is in their own free time and will not ever make its way into the mogai community which doesn’t even have ships??
i literally don’t get it ihhfjdjdd like personal dnis are neat and people setting their boundaries is ok- but why is this actual discussed discourse on the community?? it has nothing to do with mogai?? i??? it doesn’t even make any sense in context and makes even less out of it…
really hoping that the community will drop this stuff soon bc it makes such little sense and i’m really tired of seeing people arguing about strawmen that literally nobody actually supports which doesn’t even have anything to do with mogai
tl;dr: all this infighting and discourse has torn our community apart many times, and it hurts to see people fighting a senseless battle that we don’t even need to engage in.
This is pretty much exactly my opinion too; you’ve articulated it perfectly, and it’s why I’ve reached a point where I don’t want shipcourse near my stuff regardless of their so-called position.
Pro ship/anti ship has become so utterly incomprehensible and useless that they’re now basically used as funny labels to lump the people you don’t like under with no nuance. Both pro and anti ship people try their absolute hardest to ignore the variance of opinion on both sides - some pro ship people claim that it’s got nothing to do with encouraging irl bad shit while completely ignoring that there’s a large portion of people that use the label to mean exactly that (and doing absolutely nothing to root them out of the pro ship community), and some anti ship people claim that harassment isn’t a problem for their community when I have watched, with my own two eyes and multiple times, people get socially eviscerated for even being suspected of associating with pro ship people. I have watched a minor get death threats over this before anyone even thought to ask them why they considered themself pro ship.
It’s a nightmare; the whole thing is becoming nothing but a new way to find people it’s socially acceptable to shit on without thinking. I have my fears that both sides are starting to veer dangerously close to BITE methodology in their deeper circles.
The worst part is that it’s not unlikely that you and I could be accused of being pro ship (and therefore endorsing of abuse, and therefore irredeemably evil, and therefore justifiable to harass further) just for this discussion.
Bleh. My own tl;dr: You’re right. There’s no acknowledgement of the nuance in opinion that is on both sides, and it only leads to more harassment of everyone involved, on a subject that has functionally no bearing on what the community is actually about.

even if it was related to mogai, there is so much nuance to discourse that is erased by labels that don’t even have meanings anymore bc so many people use them for such different things!! people spend so much time having to clarify what they think that it would probably be easier for them to simply not label themselves as pro/anti at all!
and yeah… i’ve seen so much severe community drama due to shipcourse which is both wild and absolutely heartbreaking to me because i will see the community tear people to shreds, sending death threats and triggering them severely, simply because they might disagree on very nuanced discourse (which! it’s possible they don’t even disagree! like i said earlier how the opposing labels can have the exact same opinions! they literally help nobody hnng) which has nothing to even do with our community
people are hurting themselves and others over a discussion that could easily be opted out of and never even occur in our community at all. rather than hounding after people in callout posts because their dni includes a term that has practically no meaning anymore… we can just use the block button and move on. we shouldn’t be so ready to turn on one another at any given sign… it shows how fragile of a community we can be when things go wrong…
we should raise one another up rather than tearing each other down. help people learn and grow in productive ways. this fight helps… nobody and hurts many. we are only separating ourselves across a boundary that shouldn’t even matter in our community… it hurts to watch :((
