Rose was unable to wipe her giddy grin from her face for the rest of the night. Neither, it seemed, could James. After they finished with the dishes—which took twice as long, thanks to them stealing kisses any time their faces came within kissing range—they brought ice lollies for the kids into the living room. The three of them were piled on the sofa together, a tangle of limbs and blankets as they watched the Disney film Tangled.

Rose touched James’s arm to get him to stop before he drew the kids’ attention. He turned questioningly to her, but understanding dawned across his face when she fished her phone out of her pocket.

She snapped half a dozen photos of the kids before Matthew spotted her and shrieked, “Dessert! Dessert time!”

The other two kids perked up too, though with more reservation than the toddler. James and Rose handed off the frozen treats to the kids, giving them napkins to avoid too much of a mess.

With the kids appeased, Rose pulled James onto the love seat that was catty corner to the sofa the kids inhabited. Their angle to the television wasn’t the best—this sofa was mostly for extra seating, if she happened to have guests over—but Rose wasn’t very interested in watching the film; she didn’t think James was, either. Instead, she draped a blanket over their laps and cuddled into his side, relishing the warmth of him radiating into her.

He wrapped his arm around her waist, holding her snugly against him. The intimacy of this touch, innocent though it was, was enough to raise goosebumps across her arms. She always forgot how much she missed being touched—on her own terms, without her children sprawling across her—until James was the one holding her.

The trip home was uneventful, with the kids entertaining themselves with iPads and Rose falling asleep within the first ten minutes of the train leaving the station. James happily kept his arm around her waist as she leaned into him, her head pillowed on his shoulder. She slept for the entire ride, and he had to wake her when it was time to disembark.

“Will you be okay to drive?” he asked as he and Alex walked her and her kids to their car.

“I’m fine,” she promised through a yawn. “Seriously.”

“Text me when you make it home safely,” he said.

“Will do.” She planted a soft kiss on his lips, then held out her arms for Alex. “Hug goodnight?”

Alex leaped into the hug. “Nighty night, Rose.”

Matthew, still clinging to consciousness, stumbled forward and half-fell into James’s legs.

“Careful, mate,” he murmured, crouching down and taking the boy into his arms.

“M’sleepy,” Matthew mumbled, going boneless against James.

“I know. It was a long night.” James stroked his hair. “Let’s get you buckled in so Mummy can take you home.”

His grandmother must have been waiting for his arrival, watching from the front window, because the moment James took a step into the warm house, he was pulled into a pair of small yet strong arms.

“James! Oh, it’s so wonderful to see you, darling.”

Grinning, he allowed himself to be folded into the embrace, despite his grandmother only coming up to his chest.

“You’re too thin. Are you eating enough?” she clucked, her usual greeting ever since he’d gone through puberty and stretched out before her eyes. Throughout his teenage years, she had made sure he had access to as much food as he wanted, never denying him a pre- or post-dinner snack, though it made no difference—his body struggled to put on and keep weight.

“Yes, Grandma,” he answered patiently.

“Hmph.” Evidently finished with him, she dropped her arms from his waist and instead cooed, “Where is my Alex?”

His child giggled, then a blur of black and burgundy launched itself forward. While his grandma hugged and kissed Alex, James flicked his eyes to Rose, not wanting her to be left out. She had a soft expression on her face that melted his bones. He sidled up to her and rested his palm on her lower back.

David stood beside her, but Matthew was hiding behind Rose’s legs, his fingers fisted into the fabric of her dress.

“Well don’t just stand there, introduce me,” his grandma said, still smothering Alex in hugs and kisses.

“Don’t you dare, wait for me!”

For as difficult a night as Rose had just had, James hoped she would manage to get a good night’s sleep. He himself collapsed into bed as soon as he’d returned home at one in the morning, and though it shouldn’t have surprised him, his dreams were pleasantly plagued by Rose. It was more of the same, only she was a more concrete presence in his dreams, rather than the ephemeral, faceless specter she’d been in the past. Perhaps it was because they’d mutually agreed to cross that final hurdle together, hurtling them from friendstolovers. Well. Almostlovers.

Or perhaps it was because he had tangible stimuli to fuel him now. He could still taste her lips, could still hear her sighs and moans, could feel her soft body pressing around and against his. His dream self held nothing back, and neither had Rose. In that blissful fog of sleep, they’d moved together with grace and languor that belied the illusion that they were real. No matter. It had felt real enough, and the aching hardness he’d awoken with was more than convinced of the pleasure of the dream.

James took a few minutes to slip into his memories, both real and imagined, and pretended that the hand wrapped around his cock belonged to Rose. The mere recollection of how she’d touched him through his jeans, had ground down on him while her lips pulled and pushed at his, was enough to finish him. He came with a series of hoarse grunts, sensation sparking through his veins.

It felt as good as it had the night before, when he’d barely managed to stumble into his house, let alone his bathroom, before yanking his trousers down and taking himself in a tight fist and finishing right there in the foyer.

Private bathroom time, my arse. A little white lie.

author’s summary:

Yoongi really hopes the new neighbour doesn’t hate them. It’s not exactly quiet, a household of two twenty-something year old males, but throwing a three year old girl into the equation makes for a whole different level of noise.

Or, basically, kidfic, where Yoongi and his daughter live with Namjoon, and Jimin moves next door.

Summary:

After getting out of her second meeting of the day, Leighton turns her phone back on, eyes going immediately wide when she sees an onslaught of messages and missed calls on her lock screen. There are texts and calls from Alicia and voicemails from the school.

She dials back Alicia quickly, at least grateful that the woman picks up on the first ring.

“Alicia? Is everything okay?”

(Or, shit hits the fan. Why wouldn’t it?)

Summary:

“And you’re sure it’s okay?” Alicia asks, hands tucked into her pockets. “Aidan didn’t want to stay with anyone else, but I could always try to ask him again and delay my drive by a day.” It’s obvious that the last thing she wants is to be any kind of inconvenience. Normally, she would just take Aidan, but he would have missed too much school, and when asked if he wanted to stay with anybody, he’d asked that it be with Nicki and Leighton. “I know you’re busy–”

“It’s one-hundred percent okay,” Leighton assures with a breathless smile, taking in the woman’s travel outfit that made her stomach twist the second she saw her: dark pants, a black jean jacket over a sweatshirt, and a Chicago Cubs cap pulled tight on her head.

It’s nice to know she’s trusted like this – with their bleary-eyed morning selves and with Aidan’s admiration.

(Or, Aidan stays with Leighton when Alicia goes out of town. Our favorite gays continue to be pure of heart and dumb of ass.)

Summary:

Leighton barely remembers it, but in her sleepy fog, it seems she agreed to go to Alicia’s birthday party that’s happening on Saturday. She woke up with a text sent last night about the details and her phone at 10%, along with another message from earlier in the morning that tells her Alicia also fell asleep on the phone and had to wake Aidan and hop into the shower.

She smiles inexplicably, dragging herself out of bed as she does to wake Nicki, wracking her brain for what she might bring when she realizes it’s already Friday — meaning the party is tomorrow. It’s not as if she has time to get anything totally extravagant, but she already has a few options in mind.

(Or, Alicia’s birthday.)
