Yoongi finds Jimin on the ledge outside their room window. His hair is messy, windblown, and his cheeks are flushed from the chill. The night air is cool with the occasional breeze and stars are painted across the clear sky like flecks of gold on a black canvas.
Yoongi hoists himself up and settles next to the boy, who shows no displeasure or otherwise at the intrusion. Yoongi plays with his fingers, discomfited by the uncharacteristic silence. It’s usually the other way around - Yoongi, the one who thinks and Jimin, the one who talks.
That’s what they’re both used to - built for, even - but today, Yoongi’s restless, fidgeting now with the hem of his loose t-shirt. And Jimin - Jimin just looks ahead with a faraway look in his eyes and a burden on his shoulders that only ever comes out to play in moments like these.
It’s moments like these when Jimin feels like he’s slowly beginning to float off the ground and into the wide night sky. It’s moments like these when Jimin doesn’t even get to finish one thought before the next one comes, and they fall, layer upon layer, until his mind gets so cluttered and his heart is so full. Jimin thinks in these moments that one day, he’ll explode.
Maybe he’ll turn into dust; maybe he’ll just float away.
It’s moments like these when Yoongi gets worried. They all do, because it’s Jimin, but Yoongi thinks he’s more entitled to worry though he can’t explain why. It’s moment like these when Yoongi feels the most insignificant. As if Jimin himself was the night sky, stretched up above him, so far and so wide - unreachable and unfathomable.
Yoongi just wants to gather Jimin up and put him in a box. Contain him so that he can have this small corner of heaven all for himself. Yoongi wants to hold him and kiss him and tell him that everything about him is beautiful and brilliant.
Yoongi wants to – oh, how he wants to… but how?
Before he knows it, Yoongi is lacing his fingers between Jimin’s. The younger boy finally looks over; the look on his face is slightly startled as if only now registering Yoongi’s presence. Normally, Yoongi would be offended but today, he squeezes Jimin’s hand in his.
Jimin smiles, “hyung.”
“Hmm?” Yoongi hums, not caring if he sounds too eager.
“We’ll be okay?”
“Mm, we’ll be okay.” Yoongi replies almost immediately. And then, because Jimin’s looking at him so gratefully and so full of admiration, Yoongi leans over, warm breath painting Jimin’s cheeks with a deeper red than before.
“You’ll be okay.”
He closes the gap, meeting Jimin’s lips with his.
It’s hardly enough but Jimin squeezes his hand and Yoongi decides it’ll do for now.
