The Selfie - Cameron Hammond

My first encounter with Cameron and Rachel Hammond’s work was admittedly bittersweet. My initial impression was that it was a not afraid to be explicit, which I found to be not my forte based on the imagery or concept for Skirt. However, it was undeniable that the style and medium of the photographs stood as a unique homage to unrecognized beauty of the contemporary world. The work notes on the ideals of photographers like Slim Aarons and Ralph Crane whilst picking up on a hint of nostalgia in the atmosphere of each picture which can be easily related with personal memories. This all whilst creating a contemporary style which is unmistakable, for it is visually striking and subjectively challenging. That is what makes for great photography, which transcends our visual expectations and reveals to us the beauty within depicting the culture and scenes of our time. The couple combines their love for travelling and photography into one package which sets itself as iconography of today’s world.
