“My dad and my godfather in San Diego thirty years ago. They had both just graduated from UCSD and quit their jobs. They spent the summer of ‘89 drinking and flying kites on the beach before one went into medicine and the other went into law.”

The Ford Falcon ESP (European Sports Pack) was launched with the XD model Falcon in June 1980, and it was referred to as a modern GT. Based initially on the Falcon GL but in January 1981, the ESP was based on the Fairmont Ghia. It featured fog lights, 15 Inch Globe alloy wheels, body colour coded grill, front spoiler, suspension upgrade, limited slip diff and four wheel disc brakes. Standard engine fitment was the 4.1 Litre 250ci six cylinder producing 94kw/295nm, combined with a four speed manual or three speed automatic. But you could also have the option of the 4.9 Litre 302ci Windsor V8 producing 140kw/344nm, and the 5.8 Litre 351ci Cleveland V8 producing 149kw/415nm.


Production numbers are not known but there are estimates of around 300 to 500.
