LAST night an emotional ONE DIRECTION performed their last tour date to their devoted fans before their break.
But no one was more choked up than band member LIAM PAYNE who told us in a world exclusive interview that he was “devastated” to split from his girlfriend of two years, Sophia Smith.
Speaking just hours before the boyband went on stage for the last time ahead of their long break, Liam told us he was happy to remain solo romantically but professionally would be forming a duo — with LOUIS TOMLINSON.
An emotional Liam told us: “I’m absolutely devastated to have split with Sophia. Being on the tour all this year and being away from her was so hard. We spent so much time apart.
“But in order to do right by somebody sometimes it’s better not to do what your heart wants, but to do what’s better for them.
“Right now I’m looking forward to some alone time to figure out who I am and what I want to be.”
Following their final On The Road Again tour performance in Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena, Liam, Louis and fellow members HARRY STYLES andNIALL HORAN will release their fifth album Made In The AM, perform for the Royal Variety — and possibly The X Factor live shows and The Brits — before disbanding for a long hiatus.
For the first time Liam talked to us in detail about his plans during this unknown period for the boys.
He said: “I’m starting to think about next year when we take a break from the band for a while. I’m going into music publishing, collaborating and writing songs for other artists.
“I’m very excited to see the business from the other side. I feel I have built up a lot of knowledge of the craft of songwriting, so I think this will work really well.
“I still want to work with Louis as he is going into the label side of things, so the two match up perfectly. Hopefully we can develop some great artists together.”
We love that Louis and Liam plan to keep working together. It’s like a modern-day H & CLAIRE who formed a duo after STEPSdisbanded.
As well as becoming a first-time father next year, Louis will be launching his own record label this year with the full backing of Sony.
Liam continued: “I know he’ll be a huge success. He has a great ear for finding talent.”
Reflecting on his phenomenal success, Liam told us: “Touring has been amazing. I’m really sad for this tour to finish and I’m not sure how life will change now during our break.
“I’ve been on the road for five years, from my teens to my early twenties. I’m sure it will be strange to be at home after life on the road, but it’s a good job I’m such a great cook!”
Harry’d be the type of boyfriend to give you piggy back rides, and talk about your dates, constantly look at you, and sex. Louis is really lucky like damn.
