Tucked away in the middle of the dry lands of Tamil Nadu are the grand mansions of Chettinad. Built with Burmese teak wood, Italian marbles, and eggshell-whitened walls, the houses reek of grandeur and (disappearing) glory.

Meals are typically served on banana leaves in the southern states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu in India. Only a few restaurants continue to serve their daily meals on banana leaves except on festive occasions.

This was shot as part of a pre-arangetram photoshoot. I love this unique set up and how different it is from most arangetram photoshoots. I first saw this picture a couple of years ago somewhere in cyberspace, but I didn’t post it because I didn’t know the credits. I’m so glad I finally found out the name of the dancer/photographer today through some internet stalkingresearch.
