Well, I committed to the thing. I bought the sibling capsule vending machine to @nonasuch ’s, after almost a month of waffling about it. The goal is to have a cross between a wunderkammer and an automat. Black light. Potentially cursed toy surprises… “toy” being a flexible term.

If any of this sounds cool to you, and you’d like to help with set-up costs, donations are appreciated! Paypal.me/strangehours with whatever works. (I lost my income source for this month, so I’m left to pull it together by bits and pieces instead of all at once.) <3

A cursed object vending machine possibly the most absurd thing I’ve done for my business yet, but I’m fairly certain that the ability to release serotonin is the real selling point here.

so excited to see how yours turns out! and very glad to have more weird vending machines in the world

Ooh, sweet! As if I need more reasons to order patches and pins … all of these potential objects look amazing, like things to work into pieces of jewelry and spell foci.

Can I just…like…pay you to ship me one of each?

@deliriumcrow - Etsy only offers up yea so much potential cursed-object-toy-surprises in bulk lots, but it’s a good starting point for a mood board. The minerals choices are curated to my own tastes I must admit, but it’s not complete. My list of an ideal mix has more of a mudlarking vibe to it, or maybe a really good cache of things a crow has been hoarding. (Weirdly, if you make a blind box fancy enough, people will want one just to know what’s inside.)

@daemonvatis - I’d have to do a cost estimate of how many eggs would be feasible to stuff in a box before it’d be worth it to pay for shipping? (I have not ordered eggs yet, see previous “I have to pull it together in bits & pieces.”) If you’re in the US, I will have the Cursed Object vending machine at my Oddities & Curiosities Expo gigs this year. Probably easier to seek it out in person if that’s available to you. Strange Hours Atelier will be at the following:

  • Oddities & Curiosities Expo Charlotte, NC | Feb 26th
  • Oddities & Curiosities Expo Chicago, IL | Apr 2nd
  • Oddities & Curiosities Expo Columbus, OH | Apr 30th
  • Oddities & Curiosities Expo Detroit, MI | July 16th
  • Oddities & Curiosites Expo Richmond, VA | August 13th
  • Oddities & Curiosities Expo Buffalo, NY | August 20th

I may have other pop-ups more local to my HQ in Pittsburgh throughout the year, but those are much shorter notice. Uh. Stay tuned, I guess?

An overhead photo of a bin full of empty plastic Easter egg capsules, predominantly in gloss black but also scattered with metallic gold and translucent glow-in-the-dark colors. The bin is lit on three sides by purple LED lights, giving the eggs an eerie atmosphere.

THE EGGS.

ARE.

HERE.

(Also the vending machine, but it’s going to need a spa day or two to get it presentable.)

A photo of a hand holding up a box of miniature tarot cards, which is slightly larger than a matchbox. The label on the box reads "Tiny Universal Waite Tarot."
A photo of a hand holding a miniature tarot card between the fingertips, with other tiny cards scattered in the background. The card depicts the moon and is about 1" tall.
A photo of a hand holding a black plastic easter egg, which contains a miniature tarot card. The card depicts the moon and is about 1" tall.

I ordered a miniature tarot deck for the Cursed Object vending machine and it’s even smaller than I thought?? So tiny, I can’t even.

(There’s a slightly larger mini Waite-Rider deck in publication which I was tempted to get, but wasn’t sure a card would fit in an egg.)

An array of esoteric etchings from Strange Hours Atelier, fanned out in a semi-circle. A circular logo of old-fashioned moon phases sits at the bottom with the text "Strange Hours Press Kickstarter"ALT

Hey, it’s my birthday today and one week until the Strange Hours Press Kickstarter launches! It would be super awesome and very appreciated if you bookmarked the project page and told a friend about it. And as always, feel free to ask me about etching.

{kickstarter.com/projects/chronographia/strange-hours-press}

Today! Strange Hours Press kickstarter launched! I’m super excited to share this part of my printmaking journey with you. Head on over and take a look!!

{kickstarter.com/projects/chronographia/strange-hours-press}

HEY! It’s the LAST WEEKEND of the Strange Hours Press kickstarter!

And it’s getting so close, 85% funded! But that’s still not 100% funded, and you know the KS song and dance: ALL OR NOTHING. If you haven’t checked it out or told a friend about it already, this would be a superb time to do that.

There’s a pledge level for everybody, so if you want to throw me a dollar and that works for you, you can do that. Or maybe you want a very fancy tarot etching from my deck in progress The Chrono Tarot (even the cards where the edition is sold out)—you can do that too. Or maybe you want a little suite of all my sword prints—all reward tiers above $1 are available as add-ons. There are two brand new, never-before editioned etchings that you could be the first to own. There are a lot of options. I want you to have options! Also I want you to have etchings!

A photo of two variants of an intaglio print featuring stylized phases of a total solar eclipse sit on top of a wine-colored piece of marbled paper.ALT
A photo of a 4x5’" intaglio print featuring a linework etching of a bare branched tree with a clock face embedded in the main trunk. Small pocket watches dangle from the branches like fruit.ALT
A photo of seven 4x5” hand-embellished etchings fanned out on a wine colored sheet of marbled paper. The imagery of the etchings resembles small, enigmatic tarot cards.ALT
A photo of eight 3x4” hand-embellished etchings fanned out on a wine colored sheet of marbled paper. The imagery of the etchings resembles tiny, enigmatic tarot cards.ALT
A photo composite of a grid of 1 1/4" pinback buttons overlaid on wine-colored marbled paper.ALT
A photo composite of the circular logo for Strange Hours Press in black & white, overlaid on wine-colored marbled paper. The logo has four antiquated woodcuts of moons with faces and stars.ALT

The campaign ends Wednesday the 22nd, at 6:00 am Eastern (because I didn’t have a great understanding of how exactly KS does its countdowns when I hit the launch button.) So for many of you: treat it as if it ends Tuesday. Or sooner.

Thank you so much for your support, and for inviting my art into your home!

Last 24 hours of the Strange Hours Press campaign!

Since we’ve made funding, all reward tiers are guaranteed and this is your best chance to get a special edition etching for a while. I’ve built in covid delays into my fulfillment schedule, so it’s gonna be at least until next summer before I can fill up the special editions box like this for the general public. Campaign backers get first priority! Thank you for making this possible!!
