On Tuesday, Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata received the Officier Decoration in France’s Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters) for his contribution to the film and literature industry. Before flourishing his career in filmmaking, Takahata majored in French Literature at Tokyo University. With immense interest in French culture, he translated works by French poet Jacques Prévert as well as dubbing several French animated features into Japanese.
The ceremony was conducted at the official residence in Tokyo of French Ambassador Thierry Dana, who praised Takahata for being “a constant and active promoter of French animation cinema in Japan” and contributing “to this privileged relationship between French and Japan throughout his long career.”
“I am overjoyed as France is a special country to me, “ Takahata said. “I have been to local film festivals in France and lectured about Japanese picture scrolls. I believe the country understands Japanese culture the most.”
The feminine urge to compare hand sizes with every person I see
I think I have mistranslated myself to some great extent.
Because when I tell you,
“I’m tired.”
All I really mean is,
“Can you please hold my hand?”
Here’s a preview of my piece for @ghiblizine ! I drew my favorite fish girl.
Please take a look, preorders are open now and closing June 10th!
