- “You’re safe with me, I’ll protect you.”

- “Don’t you touch a hair on their head!”

- “You touch them again and I’ll kill you!”

- “You don’t have to be scared anymore.”

- “They thought they could get away with this?”

- “It’s over. They’re not going to hurt you again.”

“if they make it through the night, I think we can say they have a chance.”

“Character A, you’re hurt!”

“Hm? No, it’s fine. It’s nothing,” replies character A, but one hand is pressed awkwardly against their side. Their friend gives them a skeptical look.

“Show me. Move your hand.”

“It’s fine.” Character A grits their teeth.

“You can’t fool me. It is not fine. Take your hand away,” their friend insists.

Reluctanty, character A moves their shaking hand away, revealing a bloody wound beneath.

“Shit,” murmurs their friend and quickly presses the character's hand back against the injury.

“Oh, I thought you wanted me to take my hand away,” says character A snarkily.

Caretaker calling Whumpee, but their phone is just out of reach

chiafett:

No I’m literally such a sucker for fics where the sick/hurt/sad/whatever character is still included. I love writing scenarios where the rest of the friend group just lets them lay down and maybe sleep or just kind of exist there in a comfy spot while the conversation happens around them.

Especially if the character has a chronic condition. The power of just hanging out with friends in whatever way you’re capable of at the time can be so healing, and people accepting that you sometimes just don’t have the energy is so good.

reds-whump-prompts:

Protective Caregiver lines that make me go absolutely feral:

1. “Fine. I’ll do it. Just don’t hurt them.”

2. “Take me instead.”

3. “Stop! I’m sorry, just stop!”

4. “Let them go.”

5. “Where. Are. They.”

6. “Get your hands off them!”

7. “You know I have to kill you now, right?”

8. “Hurt me. Me.” (Bonus points if Whumper replies: “I am.”)

“I just think your methods are counterproductive,” says Caretaker. “Torturing Whumpee has got you nowhere. Why not try a change of strategy?”

Whumper drums their fingers thoughtfully on their desk. After a moment, they say, “OK, I’ll give you a chance. You get Whumpee for a week to do all the kind things you want with them. But at the end of the week you’d better have got some actionable intelligence out of them, or you’re both going on the rack. Deal?”

Caretaker gulps, but nods. “Deal.”

leyswhumpdump:

Whumpees being rescued by stranger caretakers is such a vibe. The fear of not knowing they’re safe. The caretaker being uncertain of what exactly Whumpee went through, or worrying they’ve made a mistake in helping the injured / feverish / terrified little mess that’s cowering or unconscious in their spare room.

And then the early recovery period. When Whumpee whispers their own name for the first time. When Caretaker tries to coax out information with food and kindness. When the seeds of doubt begin to soothe themselves until eventually they’re washed away, and Whumpee and Caretaker form an alliance if not a friendship.

Later on, Whumpee wonders how they could ever repay such kindness. The thought of someone like Caretaker helping someone like them is almost unfathomable, and once it’s actually sunk in, they break down sobbing and can’t be consoled.

Of course, once the tears have dried they are fiercely loyal to Caretaker, and will do anything in the world for this no-longer-stranger they now owe their life to.

it’s about the pure, fundementally simple kindness it takes for the caretaker to help a stranger

it’s about the whumpee rediscovering that kindness through the caretaker after they’ve lost faith in its existence

it’s about the uncertainty the caretaker has to push past

it’s about the trust the whumpee has to develop

it’s about the two strangers who aren’t allowed to stay strangers

LOVE the trope of a captive finally getting ransomed back to their own side and they’re brought out in front of their friends for the first time in weeks, maybe months, squinting in the bright light, pale and bruised and limping, and they’re practically dragged towards their friends before being dropped unceremoniously at their feet, they try to tell everyone they’re okay or even make a joke, but start to sway and then pass out before they can finish speaking.

Everyone wants to rush forward and help them but Whumper is still in the room and Whumpee is still in danger until the trade is complete. The team watches an uninjured Whumpee helplessly, even though they’re only feet away.

runningwhump:

The team receives a message after an unsuccessful rescue attempt.

The image attached is of the whumpee, beaten and bloody with eyes wide and glassy; unfocused.

“don’t come after us again, next time I won’t bother with CPR”
