When The Past Was Around
I just finished this game, and the atmosphere in this is just so good. Everything’s so pretty and light, even though it deals with a heavy topic like mourning. The art itself has this really fresh atmosphere to it, but there’s something about the music that just keeps reeling you back in from deep sadness and back into the light, which really pulls the whole thing together.
It’s a short game but the puzzles and narrative really compliment each other in terms of pacing, and together it just has the perfect length. The puzzles aren’t too complicated or anything, but for that reason they also don’t take you completely out of the story, which is always the risk with storydriven point and clicks imo. …Oh, and of course, the only real rating that matters: Did I cry while playing it? Yes.
Anyway it’s a wonderful experience, please give it a shot!

One thing that will always be confusing to me is when people do something ONLY for the social aspect.
There are people who go to concerts for bands they don’t know, because they like the social atmosphere of concerts.
There are people who watch shows they don’t even like, just because their friends are talking about it and they want to have social interactions about the show.
This will always be confusing to me because I’ve never cared that much about social interaction to do something like that.

Okay, don’t get me wrong here. I LOVE Jurassic Park. I love seeing their dinosaurs. But after watching Prehistoric Planet, and going back to look at this…

Notice how much healthier the second set looks? Their lips cover their teeth, they actually have fat on their bodies, their skin doesn’t wrinkle like they’re dehydrated. You can’t see every single tendon and muscle move because you aren’t supposed to. Dinosaurs are animals, not reptilian body-builders.
THIS is the kind of change I want to see in how we create realistic depictions of not only dinosaurs, but all prehistoric creatures. Paleoart has always had a huge issue with shrink-wrapping and making these animals look terrifying instead of making them look like, well, animals.
