Selfcest isn’t a thing in real life but the concept sounds close enough to incest that people have opinions on it. Specially the way it was done on Loki, where Sylvie is a different enough person from Loki to not be literally him (so it’s not “the same as masturbation!”) but has the same origins and is her role is similar enough that she seems related to him. A lot more than the aligator that’s for sure. She had roughly the same life in Asgard as him before being taken, didn’t she? And sometimes I see people tagging her name as “Sylvie Laufeydottir”, deducing they have the same parents.
Ah, on that note, whether or not they share their DNA is also irrelevant if we’re discussing incestshipping, or else we’d enable thorki too, brothers who aren’t blood-related.
I guess this is why no one can agree if it’s okay to ship it or not. I know the intention of the tv show was not of incest, they wouldn’t have made that a plot on their MCU, but it feels just close enough to it that it makes me uncomfortable.
Not that I need a moral reason to dislike a ship, of course. And I still like the characters. I just can’t help but to wonder about other people’s morals, where they draw the line, what is or isn’t creepy in fandom spaces.
Are proshippers more in favor of Sylki being canon? Do antis tend to dislike this ship more? Or are they on equal grounds? Or is it the opposite? I feel like that would say a lot.
