LIVE

So I’m reading Ouran for the first time, and I’m pretty sure Haruhi and Tamaki are end game (no spoilers if this is not the case) but I don’t know, they are really building up Mori as a potential love interest. I have come to notice that when Tamaki realizes something new about Haruhi, Mori is in the background noticing at the same time. He and Haruhi have cute small moments and they are very adorable. I think they could make a good couple.

I am reading the manga for Ouran Highschool Host club for the first time. I have seen the anime but always wanted to read the manga. Something tells me the anime got the 2001 Fruits Basket treatment.

I’m going to do a review at the end and talk about the differences. Just in the first few chapters alone Mori has spoken more than he did in the entire anime, which is great. Might even do some character Analysis posts. I am excited to dig deeper into Tamaki’s character most of all, but also kyoyua and Hikaru since I feel like the anime only scratched the surface of their complex character.

Ships: Tamaharu & Kyokao

Canon compliant? - Modern references, slight divergence (aka Kyokao isn’t canon, but screw it, I’m writing this anyway.)

-Anyways, we all know it’s canon that Haruhi cannot sing to save her life.

-But she still enjoys hearing the others sing, and sometimes she’ll even hum along to the melody. It’s a surprisingly relaxing group bonding experience.

-She also loves sitting next to Tamaki when he’s playing piano, and sometimes she’ll even attempt to sing if he’s playing something with lyrics.

-It’s usually not that good, but he loves it anyway.

-Honey and Mori are okay singers if they stay within their range, which tends to be very high and very low respectively.

-They tend to take the backup for songs, their voices blending into a smooth melody that the others can sing over.

-They also sing the background phrases, like the two different thunders in “Thunder”.

-Honey really gets into it, usually dancing along. Mori stays in place, but he’s usually tapping his foot and smiling as he sings. They both really enjoy it.

-Tamaki and Hikaru have about the same middle range when it comes to singing, so they’re pretty good with the majority of songs.

-They’ve even done a couple duets, no love songs though.

-Their voices work surprisingly well together, since Hikaru takes the Soprano while Tamaki is mostly Alto.

-It helped them better understand each-other, and now they regularly tease Kaoru and Kyoya together, though it’s all in good fun.

-Speaking of Kaoru and Kyoya…

-Oh. My. God.

-These two are flippin Beyonce when they sing.

-Kaoru is just high enough while Kyoya is just low enough that it creates the perfect mix of voices.

-When the others first heard them they literally stopped dead and just listened.

-Hikaru knew Kaoru could sing, but he had no idea he was thatgood.

-And Tamaki was like “Kyoya, you never told me you could sing!? “Well you never asked.”

-So now they’re practically begged to sing on a weekly basis.

-”Kaoru, my perfect, adorable, mature, selfless, gay disaster of a brother-” “What do you want Hikaru?” “…Can you sing “Centuries” again?”  “Hika-”  “Please?”  “…Fine, but you’re doing my math homework.”

-”Kyoya-” “For the fifth time Tamaki, I am not singing the duck song.”

-They do a lot of duets, love songs included, but their favorite is “Rewrite the Stars” because it speaks to them both on a personal level and how scared and happy they felt when they first got together. It helps that the vocal ranges match theirs exactly too.

Bonus:

-Renge and Reiko sometimes stop by to sing with them.

-Renge has an amazing vocal range, but she prefers pop and opera, as she feels it showcases her true talent.

-Reiko is an alright singer, but she’s usually too self-conscious to sing along, so she takes over the piano for Tamaki so he and Haruhi can dance to the music.

Hope you enjoyed! Don’t be afraid to send in an ask for Ouran or otherwise. My fandoms and what I take are listed on my profile. Have a great day!

not me momentarily revisiting my obsession with Kyoya’s vocal cords
