What would I do in Ferria? I am the queen of Attolia. I cannot mend shirts for a living.” “You did a decent job with this,” he counters. He’s wearing one of the shirts Irene mended, and she breaks into a gallop so he cannot see her blush. He curses and falls behind, his horse trying to follow her lead. She smirks to herself and schools her face before slowing down and allowing him to join her again.

And you, Eugenides? Would you guard me forever, to make sure I never go back to the Medes? Like a personal jailor?” The pause is long enough to be uncomfortable before he says, so low the wind almost drowns it, “Like a husband.”

“If Attolia could look like a queen, Eugenides was like a god revealed, transformed into something wholly unfamiliar, surrounded by the cloth-of-gold bedcover like a deity on an altar, passionless and calculating.”

The King of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner, ch 10

en-theos:

also tqt was just like…yes our protagonist has plot armour (the plans of the gods) and BOY is it heavy! boy does it chafe! He survives everything by divine ordinance but he did NOT opt in! This lazer-like focus on one mere mortal is wholly unnatural and unbearable despite its perks!

“He could tell her he loved her. He ached to shout it out loud for the gods and everyone to hear. Little good it would do. Better to trust in the moon’s promises than in the word of the Theif of Eddis. He was famous in three countries for his lies”

- Megan Whalen Turner, The Queen of Attolia

I know this quote doesn’t match up with the scene but it’s so sweet and one of my favorite lines from this book which is truly one of my favorite books and I have read more times than I can count!

io-kj:

I started a new job last week and it took me several days to get the necessary keys to get into my areas, so every time I moved to a new one I had to radio for someone to come let me in.

And the Queen’s Thief books live rent free in my head so I kept thinking:

“we have to knock like okloi at the temple in the morning and wait until he opens it for us”

Anyone else have any random phrases that just pop up when you’re least expecting it?

@io-kj OH GOSH ALL THE TIME!!! Thank you for the tag!!!

Any time I talk about the fact I come from a big family I think about Gen and his overabundance of relatives.

“So so so,” is slowly becoming part of my everyday vocabulary.

I’ve had to stop myself from saying, “Be blessed in your endeavors,” to people at work.

“Oh how our carefully laid plans go awry…” is another excellent one.

And so many others! Those books literally do live rent-free in my brain…
