Terrence Malick’s long awaited return to filmmaking, The Thin Red Line, is a powerful tale of men at war, and the futility of their struggles against their surroundings.
This idea is not too far removed from Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, a similarity that Malick seemingly pays homage to in his film’s closing shot, echoing the final frame of Miyazaki’s first masterpiece.
