Heart thudding, you steal a peek in the corridor, checking to see if you weren’t followed, before closing and locking the door to your office. It’s the only way you can get a semblance of peace these days. He’s been showing up so often. Before class, after class…. Outside of class. At first, it was endearing, his youthful passion, his puppy-like eagerness. He is so exceptionally smart - gifted really - and it was refreshing to see genuine interest in a student’s eyes when you were giving a lecture instead of that dull glimmer of confusion or straight-up boredom.
Peter would sit in the front row as you waxed poetics about quantum oscillation. He would actually lean forward and smile every time you dived into more complex Physics concepts while every other student groaned and checked their watches, counting the seconds until the blissful ringing of the bell. You praised him for his commitment to your class. And you had to admit, the kid was kinda cute too, with his bright eyes and wide smiles. Maybe you were even a little flustered by it too, the effortless, boyish charm of the kid.
If only you hadn’t admitted it within earshot of said kid.
