The first scars Jon ever gets are on his stomach. Three short lines arc from just above his belly button to his right hip, and a long, now-healed incision slices down a few centimeters from the middle of his belly button where they’d pulled his gallbladder through, stones and all. By the time he starts working as a researcher at the Magnus Institute, the scars are nearly faded, only really visible if you squint—hardly any external reminder of the procedure he’d undergone a few years prior.
The internal reminders, however, prove to be quite persistent. Though not quite as persistent, it would seem, as Timothy Stoker.
A tub of curry is unceremoniously placed on the corner of Jon’s desk, and he looks up from the book he’s been scouring for the past two hours to see Tim standing there. He’s holding a matching container in his hands, and upon meeting Jon’s eyes, he wiggles it demonstratively.
“Thanks,” Jon says, looking back down at his book so he doesn’t have to see the look of disappointment on Tim’s face, “but … not today.”
