Me when I got the script for issue 5.Made a thread over on twitter as I was clearing miscellaneous stuff from Strange Adventures off my desktop this morning, and thought I’d share it here.

vThe Shaner Cut of Strange Adventures will be largely the same, except it’ll include that shot of Adam’s ass that we had to crop out and there will be googly eyes all over Mitch’s half of the book. Placement of said eyes is up to me. #releasetheshanercut

Me when I got the script for issue 5.

The first map of Rann I made just to keep track of where things are. Some things shifted around before the final version we saw in issue 10. The map by Jack C. Harris was the basis for a lot of this.

I saw this early on when I was flipping through the Adam Strange omnibus and it felt like such a Tom thing that I kept meaning to reference it at some point.

A rough for the “family photo”, one of the few things Mitch and I both drew at different times. His is in issue 1, mine is in issue 9.

The first “tests” I made of Adam and Alanna when I was figuring out my approach for the book. I decided early on that I was going to use a thinner line and that the only spot black would be Alanna’s hair and Adam’s belt. SO of course the lion’s share of the work was in the colors

I’ve come to really love this process and what it allowed for, especially with this book, but boy I was not prepared for how much work it would be to balance everything this way. Already adjusting things for the next book but I got to try out so many new things on Strange.

If it feels like I’m eulogizing here, it’s because I’m thankful for the opportunity I had here to color myself again, experiment with new techniques, design and world-build w/ reckless abandon, work with friends, and largely because Adam is dead to me.

Note: I originally made this post in March 2019.  I accidentally deleted it recently, so I am reposting it.

I woke up humming this morning.  When I tried to figure out what song I was humming, I realized it was actually two songs that blend together.

Day after day

Give me clouds and rain and gray

Give me pain if that’s what’s real

It’s the price we pay to feel

The price of love is loss, but still we pay

We love any way

So look out, it’s around every corner

Kind of weird but that’s neither here nor there.

You can face it, embrace it.

No need to fear the beauty.

Beauty everywhere.

The melodies do blend together, although the lyrics don’t.  You know what that means: It’s time for a crossover between Starship and Next to Normal!  Bugette seemingly returns to life, but only people who knew her before she died can see or hear her.
