Conventions are brilliant places to meet new friends, but the wait between them can be painful. Why wait until 2019, when you can meet new friends all year round?

Enter,TFNation: The Gathering. A new selection of social meetups which we will be rolling out over the coming year. Paying homage to the fandom’s rich history of social get-togethers, these Gatherings will be free to attend events, where friends new and old can meet and socialise. They are a great way to bridge the gap between conventions, but also act as a first step for those wanting to meet like-minded fans before taking their first convention plunge!

Our first Gathering will take place on Saturday 6th October 2018, in London, England. Our base of operations will be the Penderel’s Oak Weatherspoon in the Holborn area. You’ll be sure to see us upon entering, but if in any doubt, just ask staff to direct you to the area reserved for the TFNation group.

If London is a little too far for you to travel, please feel free to send us your recommended locations for future Gatherings!

Operation: What It’s Worth

There are only a handful of days left to TFNation 2018, and we wanted to help everyone still not on it to hop onto the hype train, by reminding attendees what a ticket to the event entails. There are of course three tiers of tickets (Saturday only, Sunday only, Weekend), with some differences between them in terms of full access depending on the programme – but the main content below is available to all!

With order then:

Your basic,

one-day (Saturday or Sunday) TFNation ticket

grants you access to the following:

  • 20 traders, in the trader hall (Monarch), from across the Transformers and action figure market, including the major outlets in the UK and more; please note: there is no trading on Friday.

  • 20 fan creators in The Forge (Warwick), including some of the best creatives in the Transformers fandom selling their wares, arts, crafts, pins, magnets, stickers, comics and more.

  • 13 guest professionals (Monarch), personalities behind multiple aspects of the Transformers franchise, from comics to movies, toys to cartoons, ready to sign and talk and be included in photos.

  • 12 hours of panels across the two days (6 on Saturday, 6 on Sunday, Pavillion), from fan panels to professionals talking about their work, spanning from toy creation at Hasbro, IDW Publishing comics, voice acting work, and beyond!  Strictly no access to Friday Panels

A weekend ticket for TFNation

also grants you access to:

  • Club Con (Kings)! Featuring a Script Reading (with event guests reading an original piece of Transformers fiction, in character) and Cosplay Contest, which takes place on the Saturday night!

  • 11 more hours of panels, brought to you by fans (Friday, Pavillion), spanning from YouTube communities, via cosplay and toy photography to more niche interests!

  • Please note: there is no trading on Friday.

If you purchased the

extra

tickets, you will also be able to attend the now sold out:

  • Stan Bush Live Concert @TFNation (Saturday night, Kings)!

Not part of the ticket, though still part of the convention, will be the live action movie Transformers vehicle replicas, courtesy of

Transformers Car Hire

, for photo opportunities and more; a

display

of attendees’ custom work on Transformers toys and action figures; the free full convention

programme

, available at registration; exclusive TFNation

merchandise

, only available for purchase at the event.

Obviously also included in the event, though entirely thanks to our attendees, are a good time, robot chats, robo capers and silly hi-jinks, getting to know the UK and wider European community, international guests and friends, new discoveries, and a shared passion for a hobby that just keeps growing, and changing, and

leaves us all transformed.

We look forward to welcoming you to TFNation 2018!

This Is Not Your Father’s Au- I Mean Convention

You will have seen by now a certain retina-tingling theme creep into TFNation for 2018 and that is of course the wonder of G2. So it’s only natural that this year’s convention programme reflect this.

Nailing our colours to the mast with a striking cover, art courtesy of Ed Pirrie

and Liam Shalloo depicting TFNation mascot Genericon in a pose familiar to readers of Marvel's Transformers Generation 2 Issue 1.

It’s not just a pretty cover for inside you will find our traditional guest signing sheet - ideal for the autograph hunter who has ran out of space packing ahead of the event.  Ideal for framing after the event, just make sure you are careful removing the staples.

We do like to look after you so we’ve also included  your convention survival kit which consists of:

  • A map - after all you need to know where you are.
  • A timetable so you can plan your days.
  • An expanded schedule with a little more detail about all those panels and activities.
  • We’ve also some tips for the event suitable for the convention neophyte and hardened veteran alike!

No need to worry about tracking this fine publication down, as your convention programme is free for attendees to pick up from the Registration Desk when your collect your wristbands.

Operation:
Pretenders Cosplay Panel Returns!

We are excited to announce that the Pretenders Cosplay Panel will return to TFNation 2018. This year we have a mixture of new and returning panellists ready to discuss the ins and outs of costume, prop and giant robot making and take questions from attendees.

TFNation’s very own experienced cosplayer crew members Isa and Tori return to host the panel. This year they will again be joined by three panellists who are avid Transformers cosplayers and TFNation Cosplay Contest winners.

A familiar face to those who attended 2017’s Cosplay Panel is Chaozrael. Chaozrael is an extremely prolific cosplayer, often specialising in making armour from thermoplastics, who won second place in the robot category last year with an imposing Tyrest cosplay. They will also be joined by two Cosplay Panel newcomers, but Transformers cosplay veterans, Axylh and kage7632. Axylh dazzled TFNation attendees last year with her Necrobot cosplay, taking first place in the robot category. Kage7632 is a longstanding Transformer cosplayer, who often takes on huge rig costumes, and won third place in the robot category with his Nova Prime in 2017.

The panel will take place at 12pm on Sunday in the Panel Room. Whether you’re a newbie to cosplay, a veteran, or someone simply interested in just how all those weird and wonderful costumes get made, we encourage you to check out the Pretenders Cosplay Panel to learn more about this extremely creative part of the Transformers fandom.

Operation: Stan Bush Tickets - Limited Quantity Remaining

Tickets to TFNation 2018’s special event - the Stan Bush live concert - were put on sale back in February, and we’ve been keeping count of purchases and registration since, of course. As of today, we are reaching the limit of the venue’s capacity for the concert, meaning that if you have yet to book your ticket, or know people attending the convention who are still on the fence about the gig, now is the time to make that decision, and snap up the last few left!

The concert will take place on the Saturday evening of the convention, after the conclusion of our “Clubcon” evening entertainment for weekend pass holders. Like all events taking place at TFNation, attendance is strictly subject to availability and room capacity. Tickets are available from our website, in addition to regular TFNation packages. For Saturday only attendees, concert tickets are £20.00. For full weekend pass holders, concert tickets are £15.00. There are still no current plans to open up the sales to non-attendees, given room capacity, sales, and venue requirements, but we may still reassess this at a later date if any significant changes occur.

Please note that once tickets are sold out, there will be no extra, secret, or additional places released.

We remain available for questions and clarification on all our usual channels, and thank you for your understanding.

https://bit.ly/2MWKzWqWe know that many people are travelling for a long while and a long distance to attend TFNation 2018, and some are even attending the UK for the first time - so for ease of mind and stress, we are sharing once more this short guide to help make that journey just a little less worrying.

TFNation 2018 is being held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole hotel. This is located next to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham. The NEC has strong transport links via Birmingham International Train Station and Birmingham International Airport, which are both linked by one convenient hub.
Depending on how you’re travelling, the following sections below will assist you in reaching Birmingham International/NEC – from there, you are just a short walk / taxi ride away from the hotel!

1) By Air

Birmingham international airport receives flights and flight connections from many major cities across the world.
Once you reach arrivals, go up the escalators. At the top of these you will see the entrance to a Monorail. This is important as it is your gateway to the convention.

The free monorail runs every 10 mins from 5:00am to 2:00am. The journey itself only takes a couple of minutes and it will drop you off safely at Birmingham International train station. You do not need to book or board a train from here: during daytime hours, you can simply walk across the overpass that runs between the train station and the NEC. All you have to do once here is follow the signs to the Hilton.

Please Note – The overpass closes at night. It normally closes at 1:00am but has been known to close earlier. If this happens you can either get a taxi from the train station (approx. £8.00 at time of writing) or hope on a free shuttle bus to the hotel – look out for the Subway fast food restaurant: next to it, is a free yellow phone that will connect you to the Hilton. Give them a call and they will tell you when the next shuttle is due.

2) By Rail

Birmingham International is part of the national rail network and can be reached from most locations. If your journey requires you to change at Birmingham New Street, fear not: there are regular services between New Street and International.
Once you arrive at the station just head for the overpass, and follow the indications from the previous section.
Trains from New Street to International

Thursday 16th: First train 05:29 Last train 23:54
Friday 17th: First train 05:29 Last train 23:54
Saturday 18th: First train 05:50 Last train 23:14
Sunday 19th: First train 08:30 Last train 23:14
Monday 20th: First train 05:29 Last train 23:54

Trains from International to New Street
Thursday 16th: First train 06:05 Last train 01:30 (fri)
Friday 17th: First train 06:05 Last train 01:29 (sat)
Saturday 18th: First train 06:18 Last train 23:49
Sunday 19th: First train 08:30 Last train 00:09 (mon)
Monday 20th: First train 06:05 Last train 01:24 (tues)

Please note: UK trains can get quite expensive the closer you purchase your tickets to your travel date. We recommend planning rail travels in advance for both peace of mind and of budget.

3) By Coach

Birmingham coach station is located in Mill Lane, postcode B56DD. It is approximately a 15mins walk from there to Birmingham New Street (via the B4100 until you reach the Bullring, then follow signs for New Street) though we would suggest attendees use a taxi as the journey is mostly uphill. Once at New Street station, follow the indications as explained in the section above.

4) By Car

The Hilton is approximately 200 yards from Junction 6 of the M42. For SatNav users, the NEC postcode is B40 1NT. Road users will be able to reach the Hilton without going via the NEC. The hotel includes an award-winning 700 space “Safe Park” car park, but should spaces fill quickly, the NEC has thousands of parking spaces. Up to date pricing can be found on their website.
Alternative accommodation Many guests and attendees have been lucky enough to secure a room at the Hilton for part of or all of TFNation; if you have been unable to do so, there are several other options nearby still available, which you can check out in the interactive map below.

https://bit.ly/2MWKzWq

To reach the Hilton and TFNation from any of these locations, either take a taxi directly to the venue, or follow the indications explained in the sections above.

Forgot I’d never uploaded a photo on here of my customised Batman Bag…

I bought a cheap bag off eBay and a ton of patches and this is the result :D

It looks a lot more worse-for-wear now though because it’s been used endlessly since it arrived but so worth it :)

i drew this 2 years ago but never posted it because it’s not finished. I think I was gonna draw Knock Out chilling next to him but never got around to finishing it and i probably never will, so just take this old thing now.

Airachnid portrait for a little Decepticon collection I’m working on.

quetzalpapalotl:

Thing is I want to like oplita, I like the version of it that could be or exist in my head. Like, yeah, original G1 oplita felt very much like putting her and her group in a straight relationship because that’s what women in boy’s media are for in the 80s.

Nevertheless, you can actually do a lot with the concept of Optimus Prime in a relationship carried over from his time as Orion Pax, especially with the post G1 archetype of a more stoic Optimus. A romantic relationship sort of grounds him and gives him a place where he doesn’t have to be a leader, while carrying th fact that he’s still Elita’s leader with can put a lot of conflict into their relationship. Truth is that the kind of relationship they had pre-war simply cannot exist anymore, and I would find it satisfying if it resolved in thme breaking up because they are simply different people that they were when they fell in love. Or you can have them struggle, but ultimately overcoming the tensions of their relationship that is something different now, but still a good thing. Rather than a tale of falling in love, we get a tale of love adapting and enduring.

WFC had the potential for something like this, but failed, which is no surprise as WFC isn’t great at character relationships, but at least oplita approached a dynamic and their moments were kinda cute. Elita does get exasperated at Optimus and questions him a lot, which would have been great to establish her at the one person who can make listen, or to have conflict between the Prime and commander who are also significant others. But she always goes with what he says at the end like everyone else so this goes nowhere.

The angle of Elita being more pragmatic and less idealistic than Optimus, who challenges and grounds him, which may also strain their relationship is a good one. You could do something with this Hasbro. You could do a lot with these two, Hasbro, just do something.
