#megatron
I think the idea popped up while watching Prime
well maybe my path to getting revenge wouldn’t be so bloody and destructive if people didn’t keep getting in my way to lecture me about how bloody and destructive a path it is
you take up a sword to kill one guy and suddenly everyone thinks it’s a smart idea to get on your nerves. come on people.
Be my death, be my forever.

Guess who ✨
What even makes a good Megatron design
Is it making him look as close to g1 as possible, I dunno, I’ve never even seen g1
What makes a good Megatron design:
1. recognizable as Megatron.
2. fits your style/you don’t get sick of drawing him
As for the canon versions…
G1: The most basic of Megatrons. Evil Decepticon boss, buckethelmet with the frowny eyebrow-visorlike thingy and the big gun on his arm. Silver gray with red eyes. There’s some other details like his torso, but that’s it, basically. Grouchy old sadist.
SG: Recolour with wings, somehow it works. I love this guy, but he wouldn’t be a classic Megatron.
Beast era: Asshole who took on Megatron’s name for intimidation purposes. Makes it work for him. Most notable characteristic: the voice.
Car Robots/Robots in disguise: technicolour nightmare circus escapee.
U3: a stag beetle tank. I don’t like this one. Makes for decent background au designs, though.
Bay movies: changes per movie. Didn’t one of the last ones try to copy Ultron’s look? Anyway, he’s big, he’s nasty, he’s intimidating, he is lots of sharp and pointy looking shards of unpainted metal packed together in a big, bulky, intimidating shape with red eyes. It does what it is intended to do: signal as loudly as possible: this is the bad guy and he is scary and dangerous!
TFA: Two looks for Megatron here. Cybertronian version: fancy, formal, strong, vaguely based off of first Bay movie. Earth version: Practical, military, hard.
Fall of Cybertron/War for Cybertron: Pointy powerhouse.
TFP: Beautiful. Big. Strong. Mad. (the last part is mostly in the face and eyes.)
TF universe: powerhouse
IDW: designs galore, but mostly swining back to g1 variants. Here’s the hightlights:
Baby miner Megatron. The yellow-black stripes really drive home the “this guy is seen as a piece of heavy duty equipment” idea.
There’s fancy gladiator guy, indicating something ritual in the brutality of the arena.
There’s sleek militairy asshole guy designs, the black and purple one.
Then there’s Lost Light trying-for-redemption Megatron, who besides “old man” and “regret” exudes general Megatron-nes. Mostly by taking the recognizable parts of Megatron’s old design(s) and lifting them to the next level. Pretty much the best adaption of the g1 look.
And a pair of wildcards: Cloud version: kilt and chest. Kreon: tiny cutie.
I don’t exactly know where I was going with this, but basically: think about what you want to communicate with your design.
Doodle some ideas down, see what works for you.
