LIVE

I need to share this experience.

I just went to the National Museum Night to the National Museum of History, where a Professor of Classical Literature and Culture gave a lecture about… The Song of Achilles applying principles from fanfiction to the Illiad, giving Patroclus transmotivation to put the canon in a different perspective using the concept of “shipping”.

I loved it.

Her doctorate student had written her thesis on the principles of fanfiction in The Song of Achilles and shipping Patrochilles. What an awesome PhD project is that! Reading The Song of Achilles and gushing about Patrochilles with your supervisor!

And I loved the middle aged man next to me blinking at the screen at a photo of Spock and Kirk giving each other smoldering looks while the Professor was explaining to a full hall the concept of “shipping”.

not only did patroclus die and die thinking about achilles and achilles never could have seen it coming but then pat had to fucking watch achilles just slowly kill himself and that is so heartbreaking

the part of patroclus’ death that absolutely shattered me is that he wasn’t even scared to die. he was terrified and he was absolutely and utterly desperate to get away—for achilles. he knew if he died, achilles would never let hector live.

“what has hector ever done to me”

brb crying

achilles is a bottom thanks for coming to my ted talk
