So for a full 17 minutes, my Tumblr was terminated without any notice.  As in…I hit post and my blog was terminated immediately.   I had posted asking for feedback on web-hosts that would host adult blogs and had asked about one specific site (Name Redacted)* which I have now learned is a  web-host that is not allowed on Tumblr. So I have my feedback about Name Redacted…just not quite the way I expected.

The good news is that Tumblr restored my blog quickly (thank you Staff for the swift response). But  I stand by my previous comment:

Even if you do not have any NSFW images/content, import or backup now now. Tumblr is flagging everything from rocks to carrots and once Dec 17 hits, you may not be able to download a backup or import the full blog into Wordpress if items are flagged/made private. Or Tumblr may roll over on the morning of Dec 17  like a drunken sailor and crush your blog into pieces even if you’ve only posted a few Sesame Street photos (yes they flagged Big Bird too).

*I had also included a partial link to the site in the following format because I had been warned that Tumblr is cracking down on external links. I can tell you that this will not offer you protection folks.: ex:  fakelinkfakelink(.)com will not save you.

Support wrote: “In the future please refrain from posting links or content from sites that violate our policies on Spam & Deceptive links (like Name Redacted) or your account will be automatically terminated again.”

Another important note: I partially listed the URL of an adult web-host in my post for the sole purpose of asking for input about the web-host. The web-host appears on many “Top 10 Adult Web-hosts”. Bottom line: there are no “safe” ways of communicating on corporate owned platforms.Look at what is happening on Facebook, Messenger and Instagram. Even your private communications on these platforms can be censored (and yes this time I am using the word censor).

What is it anyway with everything having to be family friendly these days

Like, idk but this entire development seems really weird to me. Having adult spaces is fine. Keeping kids out of adult spaces is also fine (and necessary!). Adults often have a need for sexual or more explicit content and that’s healthy and fine, too. Adults need to be able to also discuss difficult aspects of life that might not always be child-friendly but is nevertheless vital to our lives and communities. Making the Internet into a weird Disney-esque fantasy land where nothing more than one quick kiss is allowed and the exploration of darker content is forbidden because it would interfere with the happy-rabbits-jumping-around-there-are-no-bad-things-in-ba-sing-se imagery is not only extremely censoring but also straight up unhealthy, for the individual as well as the larger community

Idk where I’m going with this but this watering down and toning down of content that we see also on other sites to the point where youtubers cannot discuss issues like addiction without fear of demonetisation… It’s just straight up unhealthy to society at large and we will feel the repercussions of this even strongly if we don’t firmly combat it

so….evidently tumblr has decided my posts don’t get to show up in tags anymore. any thoughts as to why that is?????? it’s pissing me the fuck off. I have shit I want to post. pretty sure it has nothing to do with the recent blocked content, something else has ticked them off…

Some of yall need to be more embarrassed about what yall say online and im not talking about the fandom people because at least they have friends that share their niche interests. Some of yall dont even have that and be on here talking to strangers any kind of way and then wonder why ur lonely. Like girl it’s because u are awful to be around

SInce when is “yall” a valid word? Honestly, it pisses me off to reduce two words to one, especially since the other defines a human being.

don’t you love it when people give a useful example of the op’s point out in the wild of a post

A piece of media: This is a complex story where no one is evil and no one is a saint. People are a reflection of their world, their life experiences and trauma. Morality depends on context from which you view the character. You are not supposed to find every character good or even likable. You can take sides and find real life parallels but the biggest point is to make you think and maybe recognize the flaws in yourself as well as the goodness in those you hate.

Tumblr: okay so THIS is the bad person and THIS is the good person. This is the oppressor and this is the oppressed. This is the abuser and this is their victim. If you like this EVIL character you are clearly the same as my asshole dad who reminds me of this character. Not taking a moralistic stance on a fictional story means you are amoral. Analysis is actually about figuring out who the bad-est person is so you can disavow them and who the good-est person is so you can root for them. The media you consume reflects your values and the characters you find interesting are clearly the ones who are exactly the same as you.

imo i think we should be less tolerant of bad arguments that argue in favour of things we agree with. there are so many arguments i see these days where the central idea is advocating for something that’s unequivocally good, but the actual argumentation itself ranges from really weak to flat out wrong. i understand a lot of people are pretty much willing to bolster any argument that’s in favour of a good thing, but i think we should be more rigorous about this

Alright, I am getting very tired of the refrain that “you shouldn’t be focused on hating ter/fs, you should be focused on loving trans people!”

Like, sure, okay, but when I see that trotted out to shut down any kind of analysis of the movement and the mindset behind it, it just comes across as naïve and dangerously ignorant. “Oh, you shouldn’t have to compare them to far right political groups just to prove they’re bad, they’re already bad because they hurt people!” are you KIDDING me dude. Like, jesus christ. This is yet another extension of this notion that all you need for effective leftism or anti-oppression work is ~kindness~, rather than actually doing the necessary intellectual work to understand what exactly it is that you’re fighting for and against. And yes, knowing your enemy is part of this - including understanding the way they’re gaining a foothold in mainstream politics by getting into bed with other reactionaries.

As it is, this line of argument just reads to me as a thought-terminating cliché to shut down any kind of more rigorous interrogation of t/erf ethics and tactics, and has the implication of not taking te/rfs seriously as a threat at all (which, by the way, is exactly why I haven’t been feeling super safe on here lately).
