#tw being outed

Reading the statement the Australian journalist released about Rebel Wilson’s sexuality infuriated me.

First,how tone deaf can you be? Yes this society has advanced but let’s not forget that same sex marriage is still illegal in so many countries. Or that people still aren’t dying and committing suicide for being part of the LGBTQ+ community and struggling to come to terms with that or being obstracized by family.

Second, this is her private personal life. When a celebrity or anyone decides to come out it should be on their own terms. Not to sell your own damn papers. “We reveal the truth.” Yeah this isn’t some Watergate or politically corrupt official. This is just for gossip. Journalists get to leave once their story finishes. The persons life who would change is the person you outed and who are you to decide if they’re mentally ready for that or not?

On fucking pride month no less.
